Happy Sunday Friends and Shabby Chic Designs & Decor by Janene followers… I hope that you are all surviving this very wintry winter 🥶 ❄️
While I am on my winter hiatus from the studio, that is the time I focus on my own personal house projects. I am doing a major decorating redesign in my kitchen, going from Italian Renaissance, to a very warm, cozy, French cottage vibe.
On my travels a few weeks ago, I scored this solid oak, late 1800 to early 1900’s kitchen table. She’s in really rough condition, but sturdy… today we’re taking the time to do some repairs, give it a good scrubbing, and a deep oil bath. It’s definitely going to come with signs of wear, but thats what brings the charm and tells the stories.

Well, happy Tuesday, as I am on my winter hiatus, it puts me in a space for nesting, working on my home and of course, what else, but decorating. Excuse me while I’m in my European Grandma phase. I had so much fun transitioning one of my spare bedrooms into this adorable French cottage space. Milk chocolate textured walls, antique brass, wood and artwork with a touch of French elegant decor. The guest bathroom that is next to this room was also redesigned in this French cottage theme, and I will share that next.

Happy Sunday, friends! My work season at Shabby Chic Designs & Decor by Janene is over. 🎉 The doors to the studio will be closed until spring.  Although that makes me a little sad, I am super excited for the Christmas season and my winter nesting to begin. The husband and I are getting a head start on shopping! 🛍️ 🎄 ✝️
If you’ve been following for a while, you know, every winter, my content turns from furniture from the studio to tours of my home with a whole bunch of posts of my personal antiques and home designs.
Looking forward to sharing my space with you.

Good morning, and Happy Thanksgiving! I just wanted to do a little check in considering I am just closing in on the end of this commissioned job. If you have caught my previous post, I had a customer who commissioned an entire antique dining room set; she was in need and I had the supply so it was a win-win. It has been a really big job, I’m running much later into my season than anticipated, which is getting tricky, but we are at the homestretch. I posted the buffet in a previous post and I just wanted to give a sample of what happens to furniture at 100+ years old.
There is absolutely no way to get 100 years of patina off of hardwood. And if you try, there can be problems.
You can see the before and after. The safe way is a super deep cleaning, light sanding to create a porous surface, rejuvenating with oil based stains, and then doing a deep feed of wax to moisturize this tired, old, beaten wood. These are the original leather seats, that have wear, but YES to that… they also patinaed into what looks like a purposeful black ombre’ 
This is a Spanish Renaissance inspired set, circa 1920, that is now looking a bit more refreshed, and ready for a few more decades 😊 💪🏼

Hey everyone, I hope you all had a wonderful weekend.
My season is coming to a close
soon, but I am still very busy at work doing a commissioned dining room set of 10 pieces!
I just wanted to give you a little peak at the refinished China armoire. My customer commissioned the entire set, which was this China armoire, a server, a full buffet, a dining room table, and six chairs. It’s going to be a stunner!
This is oak with the “tigerwood” grain, with barley twist legs, falling into the Spanish revival style.

OK friends, I’m sure some of you remember the Berkey and Gay antique three-piece bedroom set. Unfortunately, I was not able to stage and photograph the set because it was snatched up before it was even finished

Hey friends… Just wanted to do a little revisit on this Berky and Gay antique bedroom furniture set. I had a wee bit of a setback due a little respiratory thing, but I am feeling great and making up time.
The high boy is complete and looking spectacular… 🤩 The new upgrade is rich, sophisticated and might I say, sexy 😉

This is classic, traditional, antique, oak footstool, that can easily be made into a shelf to display for favorite things. It has a warm paisley print on thick upholstery fabric that has greens, olives, blues, cream, and gold.
