OCTOBER IS DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AWARENESS MONTH

Domestic Violence is a serious issue in our community and across the Nation. Each day, women, men and children suffer when domestic violence occurs. Homes and families are torn apart and, in many cases, innocent children suffer the most hurt as the emotional and mental effects of domestic violence leave scars that may never heal. This month, we will be celebrating the lives and successes of survivors and offering help and support to those in need and still suffering. We want to especially remember Valerie Piner and Dennis Harvey, well-loved members of our community, who lost their lives to this most grievous issue. We ask that you join us in remembering them and all others from our community and across the world who suffer the ramifications of domestic violence.

In efforts to provide services to victims of family violence and to support our Safe House, we work each year to raise funds to support the mission.

It is with regret that the Carteret County Domestic Violence Program must announce that we will not be holding our traditional Luncheon and Fashion Show in November. Due to the current restrictions in place and the uncertainty of a second outbreak of the COVID 19 Virus, we feel it is best to cancel this year's event. Unfortunately, this need to cancel will create a hardship for the agency as this event is our biggest fundraiser of the year. Our Board of Directors has taken this all into consideration and have decided to hold a SHOP, SAVOR AND SIP NO SHOW fundraiser to try to recoup some of the loss of income normally raised through this event. This year’s No Show will be dedicated in Honor and Memory of Valerie Piner and Dennis Harvey, along with all victims of domestic violence.

We would like to ask you to continue to support us during this difficult time by offering a donation to our SHOP, SAVOR AND SIP NO SHOW fundraiser that will take place during October for Domestic Violence Awareness Month and end November 15, 2020. To support this event we are asking that if you normally purchase a ticket to our event we ask that you make a donation in the amount you would normally spend on a ticket, if you sponsor the event, we ask that you sponsor our SHOP, SAVOR AND SIP NO SHOW fundraiser this year as well, and if you normally contribute a silent auction item then we ask that you make a monetary donation in the dollar value of your normal donated item. Contributions in any amount will be gratefully accepted.

We hope you will join us in making our SHOP, SAVOR AND SIP NO SHOW fundraiser a success for our agency this year. Individuals and businesses that choose to contribute will be displayed in the Carteret News-Times on November 22, 2020 as our way of saying thank you for your support. Contributors will be shared on our page as well. Thank you in advance for your support.
