Welcome the Whalebone Surf Shop 2023 SPOTY, Mike Leech!

Considering the legacy that started with Biggie and legendary Outer Banks photographer, Mickey McCarthy, in which surf photos were featured on merchandise, it was important to continue that tradition of honoring local art, and so, Surf Photographer of the Year was born.

We want to thank for being our 2022 SPOTY and sharing his work with us this past year: in our display cases, front of shop windows, and on our website. If you’ve visited the shop or online store, you’ve seen his work. Be sure to keep supporting him by visiting his shop via instagram!

Lastly, we want to thank Cal for choosing our next Surf Photographer of the Year, Mike Leech. We look forward to seeing Mike’s work come to life on the front of the shop, as his passion for the surf on the Banks is palpable, and we can’t wait to collaborate on our new t-shirt design!

We wanted to remind everyone that custom can be ordered through the shop and if we can get your board in a shipment with shop boards you can save money in shipping bud ordering online.
These boards are a custom Bobby Quad for shop guy and a custom SpineTek G-SKATE for our friend . Huge thanks to Rob for developing these renderings for us.
