Ugh it’s rough out there.

The best thing you can do if you are shopping new or even secondhand (at whatever price point or budget you shop within) is to be super picky about the material, construction and fit.

If you can’t alter the issue away, if the color isn’t right or there are threads already undone or the material is see-through (and it’s not part of the vibe) or the material is synthetic for no reason….skip it!

It is better to buy only one good item than 5 cheap, compromised pieces that will end up as noise in your closet and dilute your personal style and end up as garbage later.

It’s hard to navigate the quality out there - - - If you want to make it easier, send me a DM or email me to set up a free Discovery call and we can chat about working together!

Wearing a dingy tee with an otherwise good outfit deserves jail time. Sorry but it’s true….

The basic white tee, white top, white tank or blouse etc is one of the most important components of a highly functional wardrobe. It makes getting dressed easier and makes outfits more pulled together.

I have seen so many clients avoid white in their wardrobe because they feel it stains easily and then they have to replace them too often.

So, they end up opting for colored basics and staples instead and unless you have a realllyyyyy really strong sense of your personal style and this is a stylistic choice, this is actually making things much harder for you. This seems like such a small factor, but it creates a sea of obstacles for daily dressing.

You have to get basic before you can become interesting in your style, wardrobe and daily outfits. A white top in a variety of versions is so important to making the more statement items shine and even be wearable.

Aim for natural fibers and be diligent about your laundry care and I promise you don’t have to re-buy white base layers on a monthly basis. With this recipe, they will last for years! Yes, years!

The simple act of getting “real dressed” makes a drastic difference in how you show up in your daily life. Even if your daily life is casual or simple doesn’t mean workout clothes are the only option and if for sure isn’t the healthiest or most confident boosting option out there.

Again, it doesn’t have to be a masterpiece- - - it just needs to be intentional and you will feel so much better and your style can have the ability to actually develop

Every outfit doesn’t have to be a masterpiece, it just has to feel intentional.

Sometimes you just need to be able to throw something simple like this look on a run out the door, while feeling pulled together still.
The way to make this simplicity feel a bit more thoughtful is first, having the proper pieces in your wardrobe to begin with. This way you can throw items on nice and easy and feel confident they will work well together before the riser moment occurs. Second thing, is utilizing accessories to kick things up a notch and make the look feel more complete.

Cant rely on just one nice item to make the look feel great if the rest of the details are an afterthought. Lean into the details and the bigger picture will get better!

When I first meet my personal style clients, many will often express that they feel they need to reserve their “nice” clothes or even intentionality to a “worthy” occasion.

This unknowingly holds them back from feeling more confident, utilizing things they’ve invested in and spent money on and can even create fear around style because there isn’t daily practices attached to it.

✨In this example, I am showcasing my own personal style for a real outfit I wore out in the world.
This isn’t meant for you to replicate - - - that is also not where style or personal style can come alive.

This example is with the intention to help inspire and help you pivot the mindset around limitations put on what you wear and why. Utilize the styling tips and combinations etc, but don’t feel like this look and all its details is the only ticket to your outfit’s success! Make it your own!

The difference between a “good” outfit and a bland “default”outfit are all in the details and often get over looked.

Here we used the same exact outfit formula but pivoted the proportions, color palette/contrast and texture to create a more style-forward look that is serving the same purpose as the default look….but doing it with so much more intentionality!

The small pivots mentioned here of course don’t cover every single element of a good wardrobe, outfit or style - - - Seeing these small changes does showcase some impactful considerations that you can utilize next time you go to get dressed (or even when shopping) to advance your style in a small but mighty way!

✨If you are want to upgrade your personal style - - I am accepting clients virtually all over and limited availability for in-person (Scottsdale, AZ & Nashville, TN)

During closet audits with my personal style clients, I often see a lot of blousey and patterned tops that rarely get worn.
And when they are worn, clients say the outfit feels “off” or not quite like the vibe they were going for.

Then a lot of clients will use base layers to try and “hide” more of the areas they feel self conscious about which actually is doing the opposite and instead creating more focus to the area and creating a distrupted composition

When I ask, “What made you buy this floral top in the first place?” the answer is usually the same: they wanted to add more interest to their outfits - - - whether for work, dinners, or everyday wear and thought a patterned top would make getting dressed easier.

But here’s the issue: they’re relying on the cuteness of the top to do all the work. Without intentional styling, the pattern alone isn’t actually adding much.

So consider this a PSA: don’t buy something just because it’s patterned, trendy, or expensive and assume it will automatically elevate your look. Interest doesn’t come from the item, it comes from the styling.

When you shift your focus from one piece to the entire outfit, your looks instantly feel more polished, cohesive, and balanced.

Also… the idea that everything in your closet should spark joy is honestly BS….

That doesn’t mean you should keep clothes you hate, that don’t fit, or make you feel terrible - - - absolutely not.

You should like what you own. But how much something “sparks joy” is in no way a measure of how useful it is, how functional it is for your life, or how well it can be incorporated into your weekly or monthly outfit cycle. It’s looking at the wrong determining factor and simplifying it way too much.

I also really dislike the rule you hear online all the time: if you haven’t worn it in X amount of time, it’s time to get rid of it🙄

Sometimes that’s true if it’s been years, but most of the time, it’s not asking the right questions or acknowledging the complexity of real life > > >

We move through seasons ~ literally🌞🍂❄️🌷, personally, socially and professionally.

••One winter you may live in jeans and a blazer, and the next you feel best in dresses with knee-high boots and a sweater draped over your shoulders. Then suddenly spring arrives and everything shifts again. That doesn’t mean the blazer&jeans should be purged just because they weren’t worn as often as the dresses were.

✨Of course, wear frequency can offer valuable information.
It matters whether an item is low quality, overly trend-driven, or something you never reach for > and why.

Was it cheap? Trendy? You don’t know what to pair it with? Did you see it on someone else and think it would solve a style problem for you?

The issue with mindless purging/decluttering just to clear space without digging deeper or learning how to style what you already own - - - is that it reinforces two harmful ideas:

#1: clothing is disposable (it shouldn’t be)
#2: getting rid of things will alone fix all your wardrobe problems

It won’t…

You’ll likely end up buying more, repeating the cycle, and standing in front of a closet full of clothes that don’t fit well, don’t align with your personal style, and leave you feeling guilty for having “so much” but nothing to wear.
