Did you see this?! Did you seeee this!!!!!!!!!!!!
Before I leave for tour (CA, AZ, HI, FJ, NZ, AUS, IDN, AUS, HI, CA, AZ, CA and back to Nashville 11/23-3/29), please allow me to walk you through what happened exactly 7 days ago that still has me spellbound, right around this time in the evening!
Riiiiight before I received the award from The Josie Music Awards on the Grand Ole Opry stage...
I was peeing🤣
Having not a SINGLE clue that I'd win any of the four nominations, 8-something PM just seemed like the right time for a bathroom break.
I had just stepped out of the restroom, when I overheard "Artist of the Year..." announced over the speakers. I thought, "Congratulations to the winner!" and started chatting with my chapstick before heading back to my seat with friends.
Then I heard it - "Alyssa Jacey, Pop/Dance/Contemporary!"
WHHHHHHAAAAATTTTTT!!!!!!?????? WHAT did she just say?!!!!!
I SCREAMED (yes, like a full-body Disney princess scream) and BURST through the doors like a confused musical theatre extra - slid to a halt and checked that I wasn't hallucinating with the ushers, before assuming I was supposed to be running on stage.
"Are you SURE they said ME?"
"YES! GO!"
"But are you SURE?!" (I looked right, I looked back at them, to the right again, then back at them) "Are you...like, should I..."
And they said, "YES! GO! GO! GO!"
This went on for at least 10 seconds of pure disbelief before I finally took off speed-heeling toward the stage, down the aisle that seemed to go on forever, between four thousand people, blue sequins flying everywhere.
Camera guy had it pointed directly at my in-shock face, and I didn't know if I should acknowledge the camera (since it was being filmed for the American Country Network) or ask HIM if I was actually supposed to be there🤣
As I stood in line, I looked around, and took it all in.🥹 Wow.
I thought, "How LUCKY am I right now?! And goodness gracious, I'm ON the stage!!!" Somewhere I never thought in a trillion years I'd ever be, and really only because I'm not a country artist; a multi-genre artist. So I just never even considered it as an option. I'm a blend of pop, country, blues, soul, Americana and folk with hints of R&B and occasional flairs of a few other genres. I thought was specifically for, and only for, country artists.
There's more to my thought process and what went down right before I got to the mic, but I'll hold off on that for another post. I just wanted y'all to know what happened, moment to moment, pre-on-the-fly-speech!
