Internal motivation to prove others wrong can be a very powerful source of motivation (this is not to be confused with arrogance which is completely different). Add in faith God and great things will happen. Pro Tip: don’t always expect overnight success - enjoy the journey.

External motivation (i.e.: January 1) is not a reliable motivating factor, especially for those of you who are trying to get clean and sober. Thanks ._montyburks for the motivation! Nothing replaces the non-trainable characteristics (hard work, persistence, resiliency, etc) that are often the difference between success and failure, and for many, the difference between sobriety and a life of addiction.
