This is a prime example of the May birthstone: Emerald. It's one of the ancient stones and is even mentioned in the bible. It should display a beautiful medium green color, not too yellow and not too blue.
You can expect all emeralds to have some amount of inclusions that you can see with the naked eye. These are called "le jardin." These inclusions are very common and to be expected.
This is a ring from my personal collection, that I'm considering selling. The stone is large and if it were a solid, genuine emerald it would be worth around $30-50,000 for the stone itself.
However, the stone in my ring is a genuine emerald doublet, which means the top part is a higher quality emerald and the underside is a lighter colored emerald of lesser value. Doublets are commonly used in jewelry to bring down the overall cost of a very nice ring.
