I’m going to share a pretty unbelievable story that has been going on for the past few weeks, taking up most of my time and making it difficult to create and post.
We lost our baby, Mr. boots about a month ago after a long fight with kidney failure. The next day, his brother Kibbs (Odins cat) began acting strange, and we soon learned that he had kidney stones/crystals.
We spent a week in and out of the vet having him catheterized and medicated, but he just kept blocking. After spending thousands of dollars at the vet and exhausting all funds, we tried one last time, crossed our fingers, and took him home. The next day, he was blocked again, unable to urinate and was in a lot of pain and suffering. I decided to make the hard call and have him put down in order to end his suffering.
It was a Sunday and our vet was closed, so I took him to the only vet that I found which was open on a Sunday, about an hour away.
When the veterinarian came in, she asked me if I would be interested in signing him over to her and that she would perform a very expensive surgery and afterward adopt him out.
Odin was distraught and I tried to explain that, though we wouldn’t be taking him home, this could possibly save his life. He was inconsolable. That’s when the vet told us that though it is not customary protocol, she would perform the surgery and allow us to take him home. She told this to Odin repeatedly and told me to call any time to check on him.
It was honestly one of the best day of our lives. My parents had driven up and were waiting outside to be there for Odin since we had expected a very different outcome. We excitedly told them about what had happened. My faith in humanity had been restored. it felt like all of this work we have done to help animals had come full circle and finally karma or something divine was paying us back. Odin had even dontated $100 a week prior to a local animal rescue. He called her his hero and made plans to make her all kinds of kitty jewelry and other gifts.
