Blue Moon Turquoise

Have you heard of Blue Moon Turquoise?

This beautiful turquoise comes from the Blue Moon Mine in the Candelaria Hills of Esmeralda County, Nevada, in the Tonopah area. The mine is part of a remarkable region known for producing some of America’s most beautiful turquoise.

The Blue Moon claim has historically been worked only intermittently and in relatively small quantities, which makes good material particularly fun to find and collect. The mine has also been associated with the Otteson family, longtime Nevada turquoise miners.

Here they are paired with handmade Navajo pearls? 💙

Did you know….💙

Turquoise …. no two stones are ever exactly alike.

Swipe to see pieces…… from the almost electric blue, to the beautiful brown matrix running through the stone, each one unique. Some stones are clean and bright, while others show the host rock and matrix that formed right alongside the turquoise.

And that’s the beauty of natural turquoise — the imperfections are part of what makes it special.

I especially love the contrast in these pieces: vibrant blue against warm brown, each set in handmade sterling silver with its own distinctive details.

Which are you…
Are you a “clean blue” turquoise person, or do you love the matrix? 💙

A Little Turquoise Goes a Long Way

Sometimes it’s the smallest detail that makes the whole look.

A great straw hat, a vintage silver concho, a few beautiful turquoise stones—and suddenly you’ve got a little bit of Western soul.

Would you wear turquoise on your hat? 💙

💙Monday Minute: One Mine, Three Personalities

Turquoise isn’t just “blue.”
And one of the best examples is Kingman Turquoise.

Look at the first photo. All three of these stones are Kingman, yet they couldn’t look more different:

💙 Bright, clean blue with dramatic brown matrix
💙 Golden-brown matrix with a more earthy, greenish-blue color
💙 Almost electric blue with subtle matrix

The color and matrix can vary tremendously depending on where within a deposit the turquoise formed. That’s part of what makes natural turquoise so fascinating—and why no two pieces are ever exactly alike.

Royston Turquoise — famous for its beautiful range of greens, blues, and golden-brown matrix.

Dry Creek Turquoise — often recognized for its distinctive pale, almost icy blue to blue-gray color and delicate matrix.
✨ When you wear turquoise you’re not just wearing a color. You’re wearing a piece of the earth.

Which one would you choose: Kingman, Royston, or Dry Creek? 💙

✨ Feature Friday: What is Shadowbox Jewelry?

One of the most recognizable styles in Native American jewelry is shadowbox work—but many people aren’t sure what that actually means.

Shadowbox jewelry is created by building the design in layers. A sheet of oxidized (darkened) silver is placed beneath the turquoise, while a raised silver frame surrounds the stone. The dark background creates depth and contrast, making the turquoise appear to almost “float” above the silver.

One of the reasons I love shadowbox jewelry is the way it draws your eye straight to the turquoise while showcasing the silversmith’s craftsmanship. It’s bold, timeless, and unmistakably handcrafted.

Which style speaks to you most?

💙 The three-stone pendant
💙 The classic round shadowbox Ring
💙 The Belt Buckle

🤍 Monday Minute: The Art of Native American Beadwork 🤍

At first glance, you see a beautiful beaded necklace. But look a little closer, and you’ll see hours—sometimes days—of incredible artistry.

Every tiny glass seed bead is stitched into place one bead at a time, creating patterns that often reflect tribal traditions, family heritage, nature, or personal expression.

The necklace shown here features a classic Thunderbird design, one of the most recognized symbols in Native American art. The Thunderbird is often associated with strength, protection, power, and the connection between the earth and the spirit world.

✨ Which detail catches your eye first—the Thunderbird, the geometric patterns, or the flowing fringe? Let me know in the comments!

Monday Minute: Why Stamped Silver Never Goes Out of Style

Some jewelry follows trends. Handmade Navajo silver creates them.

Take a closer look at this necklace. Every stamped bead was crafted by hand—not poured from a mold or mass-produced. The geometric stamp work, the soft satin finish, and the touches of turquoise are hallmarks of traditional Navajo silversmithing.

One of my favorite things about handcrafted jewelry is that it carries the artist’s touch. Tiny variations aren’t imperfections—they’re proof that a skilled silversmith shaped each piece by hand.

When you wear authentic Native American jewelry, you’re wearing generations of craftsmanship, culture, and artistry.
