Vintanthro is animated by the core values of sustainability, wearability, diversity, and affordability. We think costumes should be left for plays and parties. We can’t tell you who a “typical” vintage shopper is, and we don’t want to. After all, vintage items don’t need to be expensive or hard-to-find to be cool, wearable, or well-made. And you know what? There’s no mystery behind vintage fashion
that we want to guard: it is really just awesome clothes, shoes, bags, and accessories from the past getting a second (or third, or fourth) life. In short, we’re not myth makers. We’re not trying to sell you a lifestyle, and if you’re looking for artfully unfocused, Instagram-filter-abusing photographs of wistful 20-year-olds in fields of daisies at sunset, you have come to the wrong place. We don’t care about fantasies. We care about you, and we’re pretty sure that most of our customers don’t spend their lives in backlit fields of daisies. You go to school. You volunteer. You take action. You play. You go out. You travel. You give. You raise your kids … or your cats. You do what you do. Our only hope is that sometimes you might find a reason to wear vintage items while doing it. And sure, we love vintage, but so does every other vintage retailer on the planet. That’s not really what counts. What counts are the products we offer to you. What counts is our customer service. What counts is you finding your size in our inventory. What counts is feeling included. What counts is the smile you have when you get a package from us! We carry shoes up to women’s US size 11. We carry plus sizes. We carry $20 dresses. Is that our whole inventory? No, but we do our best to make sure we have items like that. That’s just who we are.

Vintanthromodern Vintage was founded as an online Etsy shop by Melissa Gonzales in July 2011. Since then, she expanded her business to include Connecticut's only vintage shop on wheels - The Vintanthromobile (now closed). The business expanded beyond the mobile experience, and the current brick & mortar shop, Vintanthro Modern & Vintage Boutique, has taken Melissa's original vision and transformed it into an exciting, immersive shopping experience. Owner Melissa Gonzales is a full-time public school art teacher, mother of 2, and trained Art Therapist in Hamden, Connecticut. Victoria Armentrout is the second half of Vintanthro’s dynamic duo. Victoria is a textile designer and expert by trade but a jill of all trades.
