And just like that, it’s been 29 years today since my appearance on Amateur Night of “It’s Showtime at The Apollo first aired. Today I’m thinking about Maxine Lewis, longtime show producer, who made it possible for my appearance and Kiki Shepherd, Apollo Legend who was so sweet and kind to me.

This is a moment in my life that I will cherish forever. What a blessing as a young performer to get the opportunity to show what you got on such an incredibly historic stage.

30 years ago today, I graduated from St. Augustine High School in New Orleans, the home of the Purple Knights.

I’m so thankful for the part that The Aug played in my journey and for the bonds of brotherhood and community that will remain for a lifetime.

When I gave the class address at graduation, I challenged us to honor those who taught and led us by becoming that for the next generation.
I continue to strive to live up to that challenge.

Congratulations to the Class of 2026! May the dreams in your hearts manifest in unfathomable ways! Mine certainly have!

Onward and upward!
