In what I hope is the start of a series, is the first post featuring new and old floral books in my resource library. We shall call it Flower Book Club…not the most original but leaves little doubt as to what it is!
More and more I seek content that isn’t selling me something or telling me how to feel. The aim here is inspiration and sharing that with people who love flowers and books and then hopefully a lovely byproduct would be to help the sales of these designers/authors/photographers…how great🌸
I derive immense inspiration from diving into the pages of other designers work…seeing what moves them or what mechanics they prefer. Especially the mechanics. And I’m still so analog that I love the feel, smell and connection with a large format book…it pulls you in. I hope to give little windows of creative inspo by turning you on to these books. Thought I would introduce each book with a little “review”…not a critique…just what especially moved me:)
This book had me at Mexico. No culture, people, food or tendency toward vibrancy matches, in my eyes all that is Mexico. Pair that with flowers and a collection of charitable projects with some of the pillars of floral artistry and that is a book that I will read and reread forever. is the work of Pilar Fuentes with Christine Chitnis and gorgeously photographed by Corbin Gurkin. It is the work of “spirited creations from 21 floral designers” that spans several seasons where after a cancer diagnosis, an idea was born to create beauty and collective engagement with other creatives to benefit not only children traveling through similar diagnoses but also us as a whole to witness such freedom of expression. Architecture, mixed product usage, playing with light and dark, textures and shape- one can feel the expression and limitless possibilities in creation. This was pure art and magic in the most ethereal sense. What a treat.
