I think of draping as an exploration. You have a challenge or a particular question, and in the drape you try to solve that. Can I drape a fitted dress with a rectangle of cloth or what kind of origami finish can I make to a bunch of pleats across the torso or how can I create a more dramatic collar on a shirt without adding a seam at the neck or I designed this beautiful pleated fabric but how do I wind it around the body or what less traditional way can I drape a sheer sunburst pleat around a corset. Sometimes the result is a great dress or piece but if not it usually at least sparks a new focus.

At Wilkes Bashford yesterday I ran into Cate Clark who was our model in the 90’s. After an amazing catch up she showed me these shots from a shoot in ‘97. Bias dresses including the white Hollywood Collage from before we figured out the x-seam construction technique for bias. .denis
