Save Halloween Adventure

Save Halloween Adventure Together we can save Halloween Adventure for one last big Halloween celebration! This last week in the store has already gotten us nearly 20% of the way there!

Halloween Adventure has been the place to go for Halloween in the East Village for over 40 years. Our huge selection of costumes, masks, props, wigs and décor have led us to be a very popular fixture in the community. The store has made such a mark in the city that when the Netflix show “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” looked to film in a Halloween store in 2019, they filmed at Halloween Adventure. (ht

Unfortunately, due to diminishing traffic as a result of COVID, Halloween Adventure is tragically facing the reality that we will have to close. (https://nypost.com/2021/01/11/nycs-iconic-halloween-shop-to-close-permanently-after-nearly-40-years/) While the store has always been open all year, Halloween is always the critical season that funds the rest of our year. The effects of COVID on Halloween 2020 caused us to lose over $2 million in sales. Due to this harsh reality, we are facing closure and are selling off all goods at 75% off. At this rate we will not even be able to celebrate Halloween 2021 with the East Village and our last Halloween will have been one that had severely muted celebrations because of COVID. Nothing would mean more to us than to have at least one more full, true Halloween celebration with the community. After seeing the outpouring of support over the past two weeks across social media and in the store, we have realized there could be a light at the end of this dark tunnel. If we could make back this month even half of the $2 million in Halloween sales that we lost, we could stay open through Halloween and have that last great adventure with the community. If you cannot come to our store in person, we would greatly appreciate if you could support us by purchasing a gift card for the store. Every gift card helps us make it that much closer to our goal and our dream to celebrate that final Halloween with the East Village! We truly appreciate all the support we have received from our fans over the years and how you have shared our store with your friends and families. Our gift cards can be purchased right here. I had been having trouble getting much of an update recently from Halloween Adventure but I saw a big announcement today on their site! They must have been in the process of figuring things out because they just put an image and update on their page here (https://www.halloweenadventure.com/the-halloween-adventure-story).

Based on the image they are closing for renovations and looking to do a grand reopening of “Halloween Adventure 2.0” this coming fall! I, unfortunately, don’t have much of an explanation of exactly what that means but it sounds like a huge improvement over the store closing. They will still have their [email protected] e-mail account open for any questions and will also end up putting updates on their Facebook account at https://www.facebook.com/halloweenadventurenyc. I confirmed their final day before renovations is this Saturday (March 13th). They also mentioned to me that now that they are not closing permanently, they have ended the clearance sale they had going on. They are still open for purchases until the end of Saturday. If you still have a gift card and will not be able to go in person before Saturday, their website also details here (https://www.halloweenadventure.com/shop/p/halloween-adventure-giftcard) how to go about using the gift card online.

Thank you all for helping keep Halloween Adventure going and for sharing your love of the store with me. Although I am not sure exactly what “Halloween Adventure 2.0” will involve, I’m very curious and excited about it and so happy to see the store can keep going!

I was really worried the last few days because I was having trouble getting in touch with the store but thankfully everything is okay. They unfortunately had some issues with their heat and between that and the snow they actually ended up closing from Saturday to Tuesday. I know a lot of people were planning to go there this past weekend (including as part of Elana’s event) so it was really unfortunate finding out about the closed days after the fact but it was certainly an emergency situation. They thankfully have their heat back up and running now and have reopened as of late yesterday. It’s definitely still cold out there so be sure to be bundled up if you go but the store is open again!

Secret NYC has updated their news story (https://secretnyc.co/east-village-halloween-adventure-closing/) and posted in their Instagram story about the possibility of keeping the store open and about the gift cards! Thank you so much for the extra exposure for the store! The word has been getting out more and more and hopefully this helps them keep going.

The store had a small setback over the weekend as a result of having to close because of the heat but they are still open and looking forward to helping everyone! Thank you all for your support for keeping the store going!

New Yorkers may need to find a new spot for their costuming needs: the much-loved Halloween Adventure in the East Village is permanently closing. Hardcore Halloween Adventure fan Elana A. Mugdan (https://www.facebook.com/SilverScreenDragon) shared these pictures from her trip to the store on Sunday with this skeleton that she bought there. It’s great to see the streets and subways of NYC alive (with the undead!) A couple of people have been raving about the discounted skeletons there and they still have some there.

Elana also set up a Facebook event for this coming Saturday in support of the store. Whether you can attend in person or just want to help show your support and love for the store, you should definitely check it out here (https://www.facebook.com/events/795458174657269/). The Facebook event is open to the public so please join and invite all your friends too! The event is set for noon on Saturday but the store will be open on Saturday from 11 AM to 7 PM. If you can’t go on Saturday but still would like to go, feel free to go on Sunday (Noon to 6 PM) or any other day from 11 AM to 7 PM.

Thank you so much Elana for setting up this event and for the amazing pictures!

Halloween Adventure had some nice press over the weekend! They let me know their The New York Times picture piece went up (https://tinyurl.com/y3vbnhmp). It really gives a beautiful look into the store and how much it has meant to all of us. Everyone looks like they’re having so much fun! It’s really nice to see that coverage.

I spoke with Time Out New York (hopefully I’m not too much of a pest, sorry!) and they updated their article with Halloween Adventure’s updated hours and the info to purchase gift cards. (https://tinyurl.com/yydbbcc8). I’m still hoping some of the other articles will update as well but I’m so glad TimeOut is leading the charge here.

The store updated their thermometer on their site now and their they have broken the 30% mark! They are at a little over 33% as of this post. Halloween Adventure told me Saturday in particular was very busy in the store! They’ve also been seeing more and more of a boost in the gift cards as well and really appreciate it.

Thank you all again for all the support! I’ve been loving all the pictures and stories and they’ve been putting a smile on my face.

The 40-year-old shop is asking for help to "have at least one more full, true Halloween celebration."

A fellow Halloween Adventure fan, Sonya Sklaroff () recently sent me these two images of an oil painting and a sketch that were inspired by the mask wall at Halloween Adventure during October 2019. Thank you so much Sonya! It is really amazing to see how Halloween Adventure helped you touch into your creativity. I’ll make sure they see these too!

The store has been delayed on updating their thermometer on their site but I’ve been hearing they had a busy day yesterday. The support has been amazing! The gift cards are continuing to pick up as well.

If anyone else would like to share memories or images from your own experiences with Halloween Adventure, I am certainly more than happy to share those as well. Thank you all so much for sharing your experiences, pictures and adventures at the store, it’s so great to see.

A few people pointed out to me that I shouldn’t only have Halloween Adventure’s new hours in the post caption so I have created a new image to have those front and center so everyone is aware!

I spoke to them again a little bit ago and they were quite a bit busier yesterday than they were on Monday. I’m hoping I haven’t been irritating them too much but they know that I’m helping spread any updates. They also saw a boost in the gift cards on their website overnight and really appreciate the support!

They updated their thermometer again and are just shy of 30%. I hope they break 30% by tomorrow! They said they had a NY Times reporter come by yesterday so they should have an article going live over the next few days. Hopefully that helps get the word out even more. I’ve been trying to reach out to some of the other media I saw write articles last week to see if they’ll run an update with the new website and hours but unfortunately haven’t heard back from any of them.

Thank you all again, it’s been so great to talk to everyone and hear of your own experiences with Halloween Adventure and I’m hoping we can help them through this!

I spoke to Halloween Adventure again this morning. They said yesterday was a little quiet but I didn’t even realize they were open now on Mondays! They told me they changed their hours recently and now are open every day of the week. Their updated hours are:

Monday to Saturday: 11AM – 7PM
Sunday: Noon – 6 PM

Based on the thermometer image I took from their site, they are nearing 30% of the way to their target of 1 million! Last week when they first told me about the gift cards they were just above 20%.

Thank you so much to everyone who has already shown their support! It’s been amazing to see how many people care as much about Halloween Adventure as I do. They were so touched to see the support when I linked them to the page.
A lot of you also mentioned going to the store in person and that is of course just as good, if not even better, than the gift cards! I am sure they will be happy to see all of us. For those who cannot go, below is the link for the gift cards.

For as long as I can remember, Halloween Adventure has been a part of my life. I was completely distraught to hear they’re going to be closing! I spoke to a manager and they’re hoping to at least make it to Halloween but they need help. They are selling gift cards to help aid the store and I told them I would help get the message out in any way that I can! They’ve unfortunately lost access to their own social media but I didn’t want that to stop their message from spreading. Below is their story from their new website as well as info on how you can help:
