First Fitting TIPS & TRICKS

1. Set your waist (make sure you don’t do the entire fitting with the waist at the wrong height)

2. Secure the waist (take in or let out the waist so it sits at the right height for the entire fitting)

3. Check the trousers rise front & back (if the rise is too short then you won’t be able to keep the pants at the right height. They will be restricted at the bottom of the seat curve)

4. Move around (walk, bend, sit)

Hello, my name is Sibilla and I’m a bespoke tailor, but I’m also so much more.

I have so many different projects in my life, some are tailoring, and some aren’t sewing related at all.

I love to dance
I studied film
I’m a community organizer
I speak Spanish on a daily basis and I love practicing Portuguese with my Brazilian friends.
I’m a nature lover, big trees and bodies of water give me life.
Painting is my favorite form of therapy.
I love interior design
I love tiles
My plants are my babies
Sheer white curtains cover all my windows.
Life admin must always be done in the morning over a good cappuccino.
I love excel spreadsheets and collecting data
I love starting new projects… and I equally love finishing them
I’m a writer
I’m an artist
I’m a tailor

Sometimes I wonder if professionally I’m “doing the right thing” but I’ve been reminded lately that I really love to tailor… I mean the old school way, the way that takes time.
I love the process, the work, the outcome. I love sculpting cloth into a second skin. I love making unique pieces for unique people.

I’m so grateful that I love what I do.

We’re finally ready to offer our next TROUSERS workshop!!!

Learn how to FIT and MAKE the perfect pair of trousers, step-by-step, with one of one support and individual virtual fittings. You can’t beat this experience! It’s our past students’ favorite workshop 🤫 and always a huge success.

SHAPING THE CANVAS for a FEMALE FIGURE is the biggest challenge and the best reward.

There are so many ways of making a canvas for a women’s jacket or overcoat. Sometimes the easiest thing to do is cut it exactly how the cloth is cut, and put it together with whatever princess seams or darts you see on the outside…

BUT since the outside layer (the cloth) is restricted by “style lines” the canvas has more possibilities in the way it can be shaped.

AND since the canvas is the structure that holds the shape of the chest it can actually have a better shape, often a smoother shape, as long as the cloth still fits into it perfectly 😃

We all love style lines, so other than design, why would you choose a princess seam over front darts, or visa versa, or both…?
