I made a dress in Orkney, Scotland.🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

In a library 📚From Merchant & Mills fabric I found in Edinburgh 💚And a woman in a shop in Stromness recognised the Feel Good Dress from social media 🤩.
I was delighted. Someone so far away knowing my dress — that still amazes me.

I put things out into the void and forget that people actually see them. I have so much else to do!!!

This is the size small Feel Good Dress in a green check linen — 3/4 sleeves. Merchant & Mills fabric, which if you know, you know. 🌿

This is the photo that changed everything, the moment I realised this could go from a hobby to possibly a real business 🤩. I still don’t fully know why it hit the way it did. Sometimes the simplest thing works better than anything you plan.

Pencil Skirt - Part 1. Finding the Fabric.

It’s forty degrees in Palermo and I’m going fabric shopping. Obviously. 😄

I knew exactly what I wanted to make — the Pencil Skirt. I only have my denim one with me (way too hot!🥵) I was missing a lighter version in my travel wardrobe. I just didn’t know what fabric yet.

And then I found this. A beautiful grey linen with just a little more weight. Light enough for the heat, substantial enough for cooler climates. A neutral that works in all kinds of climates, with everything else I have. The moment I felt it I knew.

I did not expect to end up in the sea in my All Seasons Pinafore today, but here we are. I met up with Ana across the road at Ponta do Sol beach — she’s doing a photo project here called Underwater Faces, when I told her I design sewing patterns and I’m wearing one, she said let’s do photos of it in the water 🤩…. well yes!!! .. I’ve never done that before!!!! 🤩🤩…

Turns out keeping a dress down and looking relaxed underwater is a lot harder than it sounds🤪🤣 . These are my favourite frames from the whole shoot.

Artsy Smock Dress — Part 6. Hudson, New York. I spotted this door walking through the neighbourhood and I could not resist. That yellow. Those hot pink stairs. I had to stop.

I had to be quick though — there was a dog barking inside and I was fairly sure the owner was about to appear. 😄

This is the Artsy Smock Dress in a black African dot fabric I found at Michael Levine Fabrics in LA. Made at the New York Sewing Studio, Manhattan. Worn in Hudson, seamed perfect int hat creative little town. 💛💕

The Feel Good Dress as a blank canvas.
This is the dress in pale yellow — pure linen, 180gsm. Size small, 3/4 sleeves. Simple, easy, pulled together.

And then I added this. A child’s kimono belt I found in a market in Japan. I wear it as a scarf — fold it in half, wrap it around, push the ends through the loop. Short, neat, frames your face. It just lifts the whole thing.

This is why I keep making this dress. The raised shoulder, the hem darts that give you shape without bulk, the sleeve length that works for women our age. Feminine without the fuss. Shape without being clingy. And easy to make your own — add pleats with the included pleat hack, or choose the short or 3/4 sleeve option.
