⚜️

The painting captures a dramatic moment from Greek myth, when Agamemnon reveals that Iphigenia has been summoned not for marriage but for sacrifice to appease Artemis and secure the Greek fleet’s departure. Achilles reacts with restrained fury, reaching for his sword before being checked by Agamemnon’s authoritative presence. Iphigenia, portrayed with bridal innocence, remains emotionally distant from the confrontation. Clytemnestra’s sorrow embodies the tragic tension between maternal devotion, moral duty, and political necessity.
