What we do at Lola Hats is exceptional: We make an artisanal product in NYC. Hours of hand labor go into producing each hat. It takes time, it’s sometimes tedious, sometimes difficult but always exciting. The reason we do it here is that this is where I live and that’s where many of the old school skilled hat artisans live. But it’s becoming difficult, really difficult. We import most of our raw materials from Madagascar and China. No hat making straw is produced in the U.S. And now we’re going to be charged a tariff for importing our raw materials. Unfortunately that will make our hats even more expensive. We feel that they already cost more than many of you can afford. Will these tariffs take us down?
