In the winter of 2008, Marylynn Piotrowski and Jay Alaimo opened Smith + Butler’s doors to an enthusiastic Brooklyn audience while also drawing the like of transit Manhattanites. The shop’s rugged features are grounded in the culture of old-world Brooklyn and, on a broader scale, in the nomadic biker lifestyle. The stomping grounds of the centrally
located shop reflect the early 1900s corner carriage house, the 1940s butcher shop and the 1960s local pharmacy. The attitude of Smith + Butler is reflected by the brands they carry – classic brands like Fulmer and Davida helmets, Woolrich, Pendleton, Barbour, Filson, Belstaff, and Red Wing Boots. Brooklyn artisans inspire the curated art displayed seasonally and the locally handcrafted jewelry. On display throughout the shop are hard-to-find home furnishings and antiques, vintage motorcycles, and motorbike accessories for all biker and collector enthusiasts. Smith + Butler takes pride in connecting with their customers and in the tradition of style that is hand-picked with the New Yorker in mind.
