Did you know that the NY logo of the NY Yankees was actually designed by Tiffany & Co? It’s pretty cool, right?
Back in the late 90s, they even released a version of their cap with the Yankees logo in Chinese phonetic symbol. I remember there were two versions available, one made in Korea and the other in the USA. It was kind of an odd mix, but somehow it looked pretty stylish too. I noticed many Brooklyn kids were proudly wearing this cap. At that time, everyone was wondering what this Chinese character logo actually meant. Turns out, it’s pronounced as “Wai” in Zhuyin Fuhao (Chinese phonetic symbol) and represents the “Y” as Yankees. Pretty interesting, huh?
In 2014, ten years ago, we also created our own homage to the “NY” iconic logo of this Chinese phonetic symbol. Last year, Supreme brought it back again with an official collaboration!
But hey, we decided to take a different approach and created a Chinese letter that directly translate “NY,” rather than using a phonetic symbol.
This limited run is now available on our website.
And guess what?
Today is Chinese New Year!
