Ever wonder what a day in the life of a creative entrepreneur looks like?
I started at 6:00 a.m. building out spreadsheet workflows for an upcoming event I’m project managing.
Then it was onto job boards, applying for Client Partnership roles, fully aware that with my experience, the rejection emails will come fast and furious. Still, I apply.
Next, I threw on something comfortable, pulled up my sketches on my phone, and met my first client at the fabric shop. From there, we moved into the next phase of developing her custom garment.
Quick lunch, then off to to pick up pleated fabric. The roll was three times my size. Lately, I’ve learned more about pleating than I ever expected.
After that, it was straight to the sample room: fitting, adjustments, directing the next steps. Hands-on, detail-driven, no shortcuts.
Next thing I know, it’s after 5:00 p.m., and the heat is relentless. Elevator’s out, so it’s 11 flights down!
But the day’s not done.
I head across town to a friend’s apartment, , he’s hosting a soirée for Black creatives. And if you know, you know. Brilliant, established, emerging, across industries. We don’t gather like this often, but when we do, it’s necessary.
But when we do? Black joy. Black pride. The best of the best, all in one room.
More to come on what Black joy looks like when creatives come together like this.
