REST IN PEACE my Brother George Coleman
I was hoping I would never have to make this post. Hoping against all Odds that despite the prognosis you’d beat the Odds.
At the very least I was hoping that I’d get a chance to see you one last time again.
George and I became friends exactly 20 years ago. We were black men, young men, struggling designers trying to figure out this cruel world and industry that at that time seemed to have no place for us.
Whatever path life would take us, we remained close friends and stayed in touch.
This man was one of the nicest, kindest persons in fashion and a real reference and directory for young and old designers alike.
You could find him at Mood Fabrics | Fabric & Sewing - He was a longstanding employee there, and he would help you with whatever to needed and if he couldn’t, he could tell you where to go and who to go see to get what you need.
He was a fixture at almost all events we help at ZFACTORIE EDUCATION N RESOURCE center and a champion of the Zam Barrett — ZFACTORIE brand.
He kept his illness private - I was one of the few friends to know he was not well and one of the few people who had the privilege of visiting him this past Saturday before he passed away yesterday. I spent an hour with him, we laughter, talked, prayed and I gave him my ministerial blessing. I LOVED THIS BROTHER.
I’m sad to see him go, but I can tell you he was at peace with God and Peace with himself.
I’m also letting you know that with his blessing and the blessing of his family members, there will be a GEORGE CLAY COLEMAN SCHOLARSHIP LAUNCHED THROUGH ZFACTORIE EDUCATION N RESOURCE CENTER -
We will not let our friends name die.
The scholarship will allow two students to study in ZFACTORIEs Artisanal program FREE OF COST each year.
We will say more on that later.
For now, condolences to his Family, colleagues at Mood Fabrics | Fabric & Sewing to all his friends and loved ones living in New York.
I’m not sure if there will be a funeral service in New York - his family will say more on that but I know he will be going home to California to be buried at his family’s burial place.
Love and light my brother - I’ll see you in the Kingdom to come.
