Today, Miami Beach’s historic preservation process is facing an important challenge at the state level.

Local historic boards and public hearings are essential to protect Art Deco, neighborhood character, and residents’ quality of life.

Even when preservation is well-intentioned, weakening local review and public participation risks changing the very fabric of our historic districts.

Preserving Miami Beach means preserving both our architecture and our democratic local process.

I strongly support efforts to keep historic preservation transparent, local, and accountable to the community.
