The best part of episode 8 was the beginning when Bi Pham won the unconventional challenge!!🥳🎉🥳🎉

That and the designers dancing! 😂

The challenge, though, I was just kind of meh about. The designs weren’t that exciting to me, which I hate saying because I’m sure they put a lot of effort into them and at this point of the competition, I’m sure they’re tired. (And I don’t want to take away from Jude. The tailoring was impeccable but the quiet beauty is sometimes harder to appreciate on the runway.)

But of course, the cliffhanger🙄 is what everyone is talking about: who will Christian save?

Before you ask AI to create a tech pack, make sure you can answer these questions:

✔️ How is the garment constructed?
✔️ What fabrics and trims are being used?
✔️ What measurements matter for fit?
✔️ What details still need to be resolved?
✔️ What does the manufacturer actually need to know?

Then use AI to help organize, structure, and speed up the documentation.

The better the product development decisions, the better the AI output.

AI should 𝙨𝙪𝙥𝙥𝙤𝙧𝙩 the process, not replace the thinking behind it.

📌 Save this for your next tech pack.

Finished your tech pack? That doesn’t automatically mean you’re ready to send it to a manufacturer.

A tech pack is an important part of the handoff, but it isn’t the entire handoff. Your manufacturer may still be missing what they need to actually move your product forward.

So before you hit send, ask yourself, "Is my tech pack finished, or is my manufacturer handoff actually ready?"

In the final video of my Tech Pack series, I’m breaking down the difference.

Yet another cliffhanger, y’all! But, I must say, outside of the NFL challenge, this may be my favorite challenge of Project Runway Season 22 thus far.

There were some standouts in both groups, but the 2 that stood out in Season 22, Bi Pham and JOSEPH McRAE , were also my 2 favorites of this challenge, and I can’t wait to see who wins! (Yes, I do believe the House of Season 22 should win!)

The scary thing about AI isn’t always that it gets something obviously wrong.

Sometimes it looks so right that you don’t think to question it.

And with something as technical as a fashion tech pack, that can become an expensive mistake.

AI can make the document look polished. But can you tell which specifications are confirmed, which are assumptions, and which could cause problems once your design reaches a manufacturer?

That’s exactly what I tested with one of my own designs.

Watch the clip, then send it to a designer who’s thinking about using AI for their tech packs. 👀

Can ChatGPT really create a production-ready fashion tech pack from just one sketch?

I tested it.

And honestly, the result was much better than I expected. 👀

But once I compared ChatGPT’s tech pack to the one I had already created for the exact same garment, I started asking a very different question:

Can you actually trust what’s inside it?

In this week's YouTube video, I’m comparing the two side by side and breaking down what fashion designers need to know before using AI-generated tech packs with a manufacturer.

Shoutout to Naheim Muhammad for winning last week’s challenge. That denim paper towel look was fire!

And this week, 2 of my favorite folks left in the competition, Bi Pham and Bryan Barrientos, were finalists to dress Heidi.

I’m happy that Brian won . . . but, I have thoughts!

A tech pack isn’t about trying to control every single outcome.

It’s about reducing the number of decisions your manufacturer has to make on your behalf.

The more room you leave for interpretation, the more opportunities there are for your sample to move away from what you originally envisioned.

Clear specifications won’t eliminate the development process, but they can make that process a lot more efficient.

You’ve created your flat sketch. You’ve added the construction details. You’ve shown the trims.

Everything looks clear to you. . . . But is it clear to your manufacturer? 👀

That’s the problem with assuming a detailed flat sketch can take the place of a tech pack.

YOU know what you intended when you created the sketch. Your manufacturer only knows what you’ve actually communicated.

So, what information could they still be missing? Check out my latest YouTube video to find out. Watch it now on the 383 Design Studio YouTube channel.

Have you ever received a sample and thought, “That’s NOT what I meant”? Tell me what happened.
