A Timeless Watch

Clothing for Life

Timeless. In 1725 King George I authorized the formation of a “Watch Force” to patrol the Scottish Highlands to keep the peace. Made up of six Scottish clans, all were instructed to wear the same tartan, a mix of black, dark blue, and green, which led to the patrols nickname, “The Black Watch.”

Black Watch along with other Tartan plaids were introduced in America in the early 1800s due to the influx of Scottish immigrants at that time, but it was not until the second half of the 20th century that Tartan Plaids gained iconic status in the US and global Fashion Industry.

Today Black watch Plaid is no longer just for evening events or holiday parties. So, join the “Watch” in our Black Watch Tartan Blazer, styled in single breasted, two button, notch lapels, two flap pockets with a ticket pocket, and side vents designed by Mark Rykken. Exclusively for Britches Bespoke.

The fabric is of 100% superfine wool and woven in Scotland; Our Black Watch Blazer is a stylish alternative to a solid navy blazer by adding a bit of Royal gentility to your individual style. It’s perfect for special evening events when worn with a navy cashmere turtleneck sweater and a pair of grey flannel trousers, or for those informal outings (as shown) with a denim shirt, a zip mock sweater, a stylish silk paisley scarf, and a pair of your favorite jeans.

There are also over twenty additional Authentic Tartan Plaid patterns to choose from in our Scottish Tartan Collection.

Britches Bespoke re-invents the Seersucker Blazer

The new Britches Bespoke spring and summer collections is led by our unconstructed light tan and off-white Seersucker blazer, which was designed to combat heat and humidity, styled with a 3-button front (a nod to its Ivy League heritage), 3 open patch pockets, and side vents, making it sporty, yet utilitarian at the same time.

The most common seersucker pattern is the traditional blue and white. Seersucker was originally traded in India in the 1600s and was known as “Shirushakar” which in Persian is “milk and sugar”. Our new cool blazer is light tan (cane sugar) and a creamy white (like milk). The English adopted the fabric and began to title it “seersucker”.

The recognizable wrinkling or puckering is produced by a unique process known as slack-tension weaving. The natural puckering allows for more air flow making it cool and comfortable. And because seersucker is wrinkled by nature, it's ideal for business travel and to take on vacations.

In America in the early part of the 20th Century seersucker was not always associated with the leisure class, but that perception changed when it was popularized in the 1920s by the dandy Ivy Leaguers of Princeton who adopted it as their own. Since then, the seersucker suit has gone on the bodies of some of the most stylish men in history such as, The Duke of Windsor, Fred Astaire, Miles Davis, and Ronald Reagan, just to name a few. Shown with our luxurious orange Pima Cotton tee and silk neck scarf adding a touch of sophistication, color and comfort.

Artist Jacket

Clothing for Life
Inspired by Pablo Picasso’s bohemian sartorial aesthetic.

The epidemy in relaxed comfort, designed in 100% Japanese Indigo Linen is one of the oldest dyeing methods, dating back to the 10th Century. Indigo dyeing is characterized by a deep blue color and was prized for its ability to cling onto cotton and linen.

Originally worn and loved by both aristocrats and Samurai warriors in the 17th Century, Indigo Linen became a symbol of achievement and free spirit because of the inherent qualities of the Indigo plant which is antibacterial and is a natural insect repellent.

Our casual yet chic Indigo Blue Artist Jacket features two lower patch pockets for easy access, and two upper patch pockets, with the right featuring a flap and button. Available by special order and comes in a few limited additional colors. $695. Email Mark Rykken at [email protected] for additional information.

The Life & Legend of an Old Friend with a New Look

Clothing for Life

Worn and Loved for a Lifetime

Our old friend, the updated classic favorite, Cotton Khaki, has its origins with the military, created to be worn in hot and humid weather. Introduced in 1848 as uniforms for the British Cavalry in India to replace the traditional Scarlet Red wool jacket worn with white trousers, an ensemble that was both too hot for the climate, and very conspicuous.

The new uniforms were made of light weight cotton for comfort yet woven in a tight twill weave for durability. The cloth was dyed in light brown to blend with the environment. The term ‘Khaki’ literally means ‘dusty.’

Adopted by the US Military in the early part of the 20th Century, Cotton Khaki trousers and eventually khaki suits and sport jackets became popular in civilian wear after WW 11, and in the 1950s due to their popularity with the college Ivy League set.

Our tribute to this classic cloth is in the form of a lightweight unconstructed, single breasted sport jacket. made of 100% Pima Cotton. We’ve added bellows pockets that expand to allow for more pocket space, and a by-swing back for additional comfort and ease of movement. It can be dressed up or down and is the perfect travel jacket due to its functionality, comfort, and weight. And Oh Yeah, add a pair of matching trousers and you now have a versatile suit at your disposal when the appropriate occasion calls for it.

In 1837 the Commander of the Royal Navy ship the HMS Blazer commissioned solid blue coats to be worn by his crew due to an imminent visit from Queen Victoria. The crew’s “blazers” with their shining brass buttons so impressed the Queen, that it soon became the Royal Navy’s dress uniform, and this undisputed sartorial icon was born.

Our navy blazer is made of 100% wool serge (a tightly woven twill weave), and is the same fabric used in the original HMS Blazers coats. We’ve styled it in single breasted with 3 open patch pockets allowing the pockets to expand, with an inverted pleat or bellows pockets and action back optional. allows for the expansion of the pockets. It is paired with our dark brown quilted suede vest, a flannel brown mini-check shirt, and a navy, light blue, and brown rep tie.
