Today would have been my mother's 109th birthday,
109 years today since our mother came into the world. She endured the pains of childbirth to get us here. She endured the tribulations of marriage to remain loyal to her family.
We can’t forget the sacrifices she made for us.
She was a kind, generous and caring mother, non-violent, always there when we needed her. She encouraged us in school, sent us through college. She fed us, cooked our dinners, cleaned our house, sewed clothes she designed with material my father brought from textile work, knitted sweaters and was a real craftswoman as well as a reader of many books. She especially loved science fiction and best- sellers she got from the library.
We were lucky to be brought up by an intelligent and devoted mother. We wouldn’t be here or who we are without her.

Happy Birthday to my father Max, 112 today. Thanks to him for filming my childhood and supplying his genes.
He was a textile chemist, pharmacist, world traveler, gardener and home movie enthusiast.

Where are the butterflies, bees, moths, wasps, lightning bugs . flies and all the insects of summer? I haven't any in NYC this year. Have we sprayed them out of existence? Not that we miss them but they're part of creation. How can we tell children about the birds and the bees if there are no bees and a declining number of birds?

Avoid Capitol One Bank

Without warning,without explanation , Capitol One Bank locked me out of my bank account. It took a day and half of frustrating technology, rep after rep who disconnected on the phone, password reset after password reset, verification after verification when they knew it was me as a rep who sounded like a robot talked over me with a prefab spiel. First I had to wait 24 hours before trying again when my long estabished user name and password were not recognized What. followed were stupid unnecessary reset procedures wasting my time and causing exasperation. I have been with this bank for forty years but am considering leaving it after this horrible experience. I would not recommend Capitol One's online banking or its insensitive, robotic employees after this harrowing experience.
