During my time in Japan, I became fascinated by sashiko and its incredible world of stitches, patterns and geometries.

My research gradually brought me closer to hitomezashi and kuguri-sashi, and, of course, at some point I started wondering: what would happen if I brought these ideas into knitwear?

That question turned into a lot of experimenting.

For my new workshop, I created this turtleneck dickey to explore my own approach to these techniques on knitted fabric, playing with embroidery, geometry and colour.

And the pattern you see here is only one possibility.

During the workshop, I’ll share the technique I’ve developed and show you how to use it as a starting point to experiment and create your own patterns and designs.

After a lot of research, sampling and playing with threads, I’m very happy that this project has finally become a new workshop.

The Next Loop goes live today! YAY!

Lately, I’ve found myself looking back at my journey in the knitting world. I started working consistently in the knitting world back in 2012, and since then, things have happened little by little: one project, one collaboration, one festival at a time.

Over the years, this journey has taken me to teach at festivals in different countries and eventually to Vogue Knitting Live in New York, where I had the chance to meet and work with the wonderful team behind Vogue Knitting.

Being invited by them to join The Next Loop as one of the designers of its inaugural collection feels like a very special step in that journey and an incredible source of satisfaction.

What makes me even happier is being able to contribute to this new adventure with my own work. The Next Loop is a new digital space by Vogue Knitting, bringing together patterns, designers, techniques, stories and inspiration throughout the year. There is so much coming, and I’m genuinely excited for everyone who joins to discover what the team has been creating.

Today, The Next Loop officially begins, and looking back at where this journey started makes this moment even more special. Come aboard and enjoy every little bit of this new adventure with me!

Ma chi l’avrebbe mai detto che a Valgrisenche ci fosse un festival così figo?

Valgrisenche è una piccola realtà della Valle d’Aosta, uno di quei luoghi in cui forse non ti aspetteresti di trovare un festival della lana vivace e partecipato come Mo'delaine . E invece proprio qui la lana diventa un modo per raccontare qualcosa di molto più ampio: un territorio, le persone che lo abitano e il rapporto che nel tempo hanno costruito con le proprie risorse.
Ho insegnato due workshop di ricamo su lana, ma soprattutto ho avuto l’occasione di conoscere una realtà profondamente legata alla cultura locale. In una valle di montagna la lana non è semplicemente una materia prima: porta con sé pratiche, necessità, gesti e conoscenze tramandate, e racconta un modo di vivere e di adattarsi a un ambiente specifico.

Ho trovato in Mo’delaine la capacità di mettere insieme artigianato contemporaneo e saperi tradizionali senza trasformare questi ultimi in qualcosa di puramente folkloristico. Dietro al festival c’è un’attenzione concreta alla filiera locale, alla provenienza dei materiali e soprattutto alle persone che continuano a mantenerne vivo il significato. In fondo, lavorare con un materiale significa anche conoscere il contesto da cui proviene. E qui la lana parla inevitabilmente di pascoli, allevamento, transumanza, stagioni, lavoro e comunità.

Grazie a Luana, vera colonna portante dell’organizzazione, per l’invito e per un’accoglienza meravigliosa, e a tutte le persone che mi hanno fatto entrare, anche solo per qualche giorno, dentro questo piccolo pezzo di Valle d’Aosta.
Mo’delaine è stata una bella scoperta: non soltanto un festival della lana, ma un modo intelligente di raccontare un territorio attraverso ciò che produce e attraverso chi continua ad abitarlo.

I’m working on a new sweater with this beautiful merino wool from Argentina by Merino Bewool . Non-superwash, of course! I’ve honestly never worked with such an incredibly soft yarn! It feels amazing in my hands and I’m really enjoying working with it. You have to try it to believe it!

This project is not only going to become a new pattern, to be released later this autumn, but I’ll also use it for my sweater construction classes! I’m already working on the pattern to make sure the instructions are extra clear and easy to follow!

Okay, a little throwback to this one… 😅

Some designs stay with you long after you’ve finished them, and this is definitely one of mine.

I designed this jacket for The Knitter some years ago, and I still love how much thought and work went into every single detail. The idea was to recreate the structure and character of a real denim jacket through knitting, rather than simply making a cardigan that looked like one. I unfortunately never had the patience to knit one for myself. 😅

Almost every element was carefully engineered: the pockets and their construction, the vertical i-cord details, the horizontal Latvian braids, the collar, cuffs and hem. Many parts are doubled and folded to give the fabric more substance, structure and weight, and to make the finished piece feel much closer to an actual jacket.

It was one of those projects where the design process went far beyond choosing a stitch and drawing a silhouette. I spent so much time figuring out how each detail should be constructed, how the different elements should meet, and how to translate the language of a denim jacket into knitted fabric.

A lot of work, a lot of problem-solving, and probably far too much attention to tiny details… but looking at it again, that’s exactly why I still love this piece so much. 💙

I’ll be fir the first time at Bergen Strikkefestival Bergen Strikkefestival September 25 to 27, 2026, teaching two workshops. I can't wait!

On Friday, September 25, from 12:15 PM to 3:15 PM:

- Embroidery on Wool: The Basics Made Fun and Easy!

We’ll start from the basics of embroidery on knits, from essential stitches to creating textured details. The workshop is designed to help you build confidence, experiment with three dimensional effects and discover how embroidery can transform your knitting. No previous knowledge or experience of embroidery is needed!

On Saturday, September 26, from 10:15 AM to 1:15 PM:

• Knit Your Sweater & Make It Fancy!

We’ll look at how sweaters are built, from shaping and construction to cables, intarsia and colourwork. We’ll also work on understanding patterns more clearly, making informed modifications and approaching your own designs with a better plan. A really cool workshops if you like to approach your knits is a more detailed way leaving no questions unanswered!

I’m really looking forward to this even, meeting knitters in Bergen and spending a few days surrounded by yarn, creativity and good knitting conversations! You can register to my classes the Bergen Strikkefestival website!
