European Pottery – The Original Retro/Mid-Century Style
I have been collecting pottery since I was very young. I was attracted by the form, the waves and passion the artist exhibited in every piece.
In the Eastern Bloc of Europe this pottery was found in every single home. It was a must-have. Why? Because these pieces were affordable and they fulfilled the requirements of conformity. This meant they were a political symbol indicating that everyone was equal. The pottery market blossomed. Artist were allowed to experiment within certain limits and a new style formed, which defined the 60-70-80s across Eastern Europe. The style varied from country to country, there was mass production and there were pieces crafted individually by articles. This now retro style became the signature of an era. When the Berlin Wall fell and the Eastern Bloc opened its doors to the West, change swept through people's homes and theirs values and sense of style have changed. Today there is a generation who doesn't want to remember the retro style and who have returned to bourgeois styles. And there is a new generation, who is interested in rediscovering the styles of the "worker's paradise."
I have decided to offer to you unique pottery from this begone era. I would like to recognize its glory by celebrating the artist. European ‘retro’ style pottery is being rediscovered. Experience these distinctive pieces and imagine them in your home. If you buy one or more, I promise a you will own a piece of history. Please enjoy my collection.
