“Every exit is an entrance somewhere else.” - Tom Stoppard
That’s what I posted one year ago, when I moved my studio and sadly closed the doors to Brooklyn Stitchery. I saw the exit, but didn’t know where the entrance would be, but the pandemic walked me into Sew Right’s door (to get my machines serviced!). They needed a teacher and I wanted to continue to teach in person, so it was a match. I am now officially a part of the Sew Right family. Along with teaching, I help to write their weekly emails and posts for social media, and now you will see me working in the store on Thursdays.
Sew Right has become my new happy place 🤗 and I hope that you will be able to join me there soon!
New classes are coming on the schedule and more news to come!

It’s the first day of fall, but it still feels like summer in NYC! To get ready for the cooler weather join me for my new class making a quilted jacket. Made using one layer cake bundle to keep the color selection simple, I designed this to have a “scrappy” look instead of a traditional quilt block. The jacket has a boxy fit that is OSFM that can be made with minor adjustments. Check out website for class details and registration. It is a four session class with some homework in between because you are making the entire jacket from scratch. Questions? Let me know in the comments below.

When I first started out on my own business, I was approached to get a table at my daughter’s school holiday fair. I knew that I wanted to make more than just accessories, and it needed to be a OSFM garment. It came in the idea of a cape or poncho, but it wasn’t trendy at the time, so I made my own version that had a belt (sorry no pic of this one, but I’m sure I have one in my archives somewhere!) They sold, and I got orders for more. After that, I made more versions for the next fair. When I opened my studio, the capes adorned my dress forms in the showroom, and what happened next surprised me. I sold a few, but when I started teaching classes, I had more requests from students to make them. It still happens today!

Pic 1 is of my newest quilted version of my asymmetrical poncho using scraps from Brooklyn Stitchery.

Pic 2 is from today’s Mom & Me class - happy students with their new capes and one new apron!

Anyone else inspired to get creative after seeing all the fashion between last night’s and NYFW? Although there are no immediate plans to make myself a ball gown, I’ve pulled some fabrics out of my stash to start sewing some new clothes. Usually I let the fabric tell me what it wants to be, but on occasion I work from a pattern or sketch and search for that perfect fabric. Either way, I enjoy the creative process. How about you? Which way do you like to work? Drop a comment below!

September is which means it’s time for new fall classes !! Get your machine out, pick out some new fabric and get sewing! After all, who doesn’t want a new fall wardrobe? I know that I do 😉!!
Thanks to all the students that took my classes this summer - shown here is one group from my Beginner Sewing Class, all sporting their new reversible tote bags. (I’m wearing a linen skirt from my own pattern collection).
I hope you’ll join me this fall!

How well do you know your sewing machine? Today is and September is , so my recommended read is your sewing machine manual! I can’t tell you how many students that take my classes are surprised when I show them a feature on their sewing machine that they didn’t know about, especially when they own a computerized machine. Take the time and read your manual - it is sew very helpful!

Students ask me how I like to work and the funny thing is that I rarely make something for myself from start to finish in one shot. I also like to work on multiple projects at one time. This cape was started years ago and I came across it this past spring when I unboxed my studio, so I added the embroidery. Then it sat for awhile until I found the right lining (amongst my fabric stash as I knew that I had the perfect color). After I lined it, it sat for more time while I searched for the right closing for the front. Once summer came, it was put aside again until now. I’m ready to finally finish it!
