Garden Party/Arts

Garden Party/Arts GP/A is a Brooklyn based exhibition series that gives artists the opportunity to discuss, exhibit, and write about their work in a feminist and queer context.

Garden Party/Arts is a feminist-run outdoor art exhibition series based primarily in the Bed-Stuy neighborhood of Brooklyn. This project situates itself in a No Wave feminist context, but artists do not necessarily need to be showing work with feminist content. Shows will occur the last Saturday and Sunday of the month, starting in May. The first day will be a general reception and viewing, while the second night will be an invite-only artist talk and dinner. The dinner guest-list will be curated by the exhibiting artist(s) with the help of the organizers, and will allow the artist(s) an opportunity to invite thinkers with whom they wish to have a dialogue. GP/A was started by artists E.E. Ikeler and Ariel Roman. Because of the difficulty we’ve faced in finding venues to exhibit and thoughtfully discuss our work, we feel intervention is necessary. As part of each exhibit, artists will be asked to contribute to a small text-based piece regarding their show, which will accompany the verbal dialogue on the night of the dinner party.
