The NYC Marathon just hits different. Getting bussed out to the start line with thousands of other runners feels like you’re heading into battle. Wild crowds throughout every mile packed with energy. It’s brutal, it’s iconic, and there’s nothing else like it.

11/03/2024

With just 12 hours until what could be the biggest marathon of all time, New York City is buzzing as runners from around the world take over the Big Apple. Good luck to everyone taking on the 5 boroughs tomorrow—if today’s energy is any indication, it’s going to be wild!

Thanks to everyone that’s put in an order or sent us an email over the last few days, the response has been overwhelming. Today is the last chance to get yourself some NORTHSOUTH socks (50% off everything) before we close up shop this evening.

For those that missed our email from earlier in the week:

After 4 years of building up the NORTHSOUTH brand, we’ve decided as of tomorrow, NORTHSOUTH apparel will be closing up shop once and for all. We’ve had an absolute blast along the way but the time has come to concentrate on our films and this is what we’ll be putting all of our energy into going forwards. As the saying goes, if you’re a jack of all trades (or you at least try to be), you’re a master of none and we’ve found this to be especially true for us lately. We’ll still be out on the road sharing our films but unfortunately, our days of designing new gear and packing socks are behind us.

When we started this brand in 2017, we set out to inspire people to get outside and explore the world on two wheels and so, we’ve hope this has been the case for a few of you. I know for us, having emails coming in from all corners of the globe and seeing the arctic tern on socks in and around our hometown in Melbourne has definitely made it all worthwhile, to say the least.

Again, thanks for everything and we’ll see you on the road.

Our new neck buffs have just dropped. $30 each and we only have 40 of them so you’ll have to be pretty quick.

They’re made in Melbourne from a specially knitted smooth yet durable Italian fabric. The face of the fabric fends off the elements while a soft brushed back provides a barrier between you and the fabric – keeping you warm and dry on those frosty winter mornings. This micro-nylon and elastane blend dries incredibly quickly so you can wear it day after day. @ Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

In an age of countless events pretending to be tough, Race to the Rock pushes participants to the edge of human ability in ways that have to be seen to be believed. Tomorrow morning at 6:22am, 35 brave cyclists will set out on an adventure of a lifetime. After dipping their rear wheels into the Pacific Ocean at Port Douglass, they'll traverse 2,810 kilometres through some of the most rugged, remote and dangerous country in the Australian outback.

To give you an insight into the pain these riders will be going through and the incredible landscapes they'll behold, we're releasing a trailer to our upcoming documentary 'Race to the Rock'.

NORTHSOUTH & Curve Cycling present Race to the Rock, the documentary. Coming Spring 2019.

Whatever the ride, it’s better in merino. We found out the hard way this time last year when we were riding through the Scottish Highlands and got a months worth of rain in 3 days! Unlike other performance materials, merino retains 80% of it’s insulating properties when wet. So, as soon as we got home we got to designing our first range of all weather merino products so that the next time we’re riding in the Scottish ‘summer’ we’ll be ready for anything! By the 1890s the modern bicycle design had settled and this new machine spread like a virus around the world. The bicycle was then fastest way to travel long distances overland. Intrepid young Australians with an appetite for adventure strapped what they needed to their bikes and headed into the outback in an effort to be the first, or the fastest, to cover the vast distances between Australia's major centres. With no roads, few known food or water sources, no reliable maps and rudimentary equipment, these early "Overlanders" were lauded by the media and worshipped by the public. Entire towns lined their streets to greet the Overlanders as they rode through. Stories of adventure and survival in exotic places captivated the public. These were the first bikepackers. Their history has been lost.

Inspired by the Overlanders and their lives of simple adventure we set out to answer the following question: 'If you could only pack one shirt on your next trip, what would it be’? 📸 @ Mount Mulligan, Queensland
