The Byas & Leon Shoppe is a Brooklyn based boutique specializing in ethical and sustainable apparel.

In an interesting and rather poetic turn of events, 2020 actually makes 20 years of us (Harvey Leon and Rony Byas) being friends. From pedal bikes with reflectors in the spokes to street football games played until the sun went down - from adventures all over New York City to road tripping across the country and back, we've done it all as brothers. Byas & Leon was in many ways, somewhat of an oddb

all idea - considering that at the time (2012), one of us was still an Engineering student who dabbled in documentary filmmaking, while the other was a business student running his family mattress factory. We were of one mind however, through our mutual and growing interest in apparel production and more importantly, ethically doing so in Haiti - the seat of our shared cultural heritage. Seven years, and many spiritual milestones later, the physical Byas & Leon Shoppe was born, with the two of us succeeding in building far more than we'd dreamed of - a community :) A Black owned beacon for the ethical and sustainable future of fashion, a cultural hub of learning and love - not bad for two knuckleheads from Queens and Brooklyn right (laughs)?

Sooooo in July we’d done a lil activity called “Muse For Me” 🤩🧡

We formed a few of our people into pairs, where we then had them serve as *both* each others’ stylists and muses—creating fits from clothing and accessories from The Shoppe :)

We packed alllll the things and jumped into 2 cars plus an Uber lmao, to head to a photo studio in Bushwick. Muse standing up in the shot, stylist sitting down. And then ✨switch✨ That was the plan. Our resident photographer extraordinaire Nehemiah Brent did his thing and most importantly, we had alotttttt of fun

It was…a whole operation lmao but again, high on the fun, quirky innovation of it. There’s beauty all around us mannnnn—style and model for yo people beloved! That’s the whole idea and we’re glad to have seen it through :)

We’re bringing back one of our all-time favorites from the vault, for what is likely our last official event of the summer (I knowwww😢😩 hahaha)

The premise of Shoot & Tell is pretty simple. We will gather at The Shoppe and be given an abstract lil prompt—at which point we’ll have 30 minutes to go out into the neighborhood and “shoot” (using phones only) our own unique interpretations of said prompt.

Wholesome, low-stakes, and guaranteed to bring the art heaux out of us all lmao. Swipe to see some of the beautiful photos people took the last time we had this event. Turns out, when given a little nudge, a lot of us are far more artistically capable than we may have thought ☺️👩🏽‍🎨👨🏾‍🎨🖤♥️

Pleased to say that our blue Byas & Leon mesh jersey is sold outtttttt—joining its maroon twin and marking the “end” of that campaign🌀🤲🏾💙

We want y’all to know how TREMENDOUSLY grateful we are whenever we make something unique and y’all buy it (sometimes aggressively lmao) down to the very last unit. If you know a bit about “retail science” then you know how virtually impossible it is to sell everything you produce in a given drop—so it’s truly a gift when it happens to us and for that we give big thanks 🤲🏾♥️

A hop skip & a jump away from a DECADE, lmao can you believe it?? It’s birthday is actually January 19th lol but we’ve again waited till now to celebrate because there’s just ✨nothing✨ like a Brooklyn summer :)

And so! OUR FIRST EVER DAY PARTY and mannnnnn we gon dance y’all. We gon laugh, we gon hold each other, we gon sweat. We gon re-invigorate/re-energize, so we can keep showing up for people & for planet. This one’s for Haiti—for “L’Union fait La Force”—for “Inshallah”—for “N*gga We Gon Be ALRIGHT”—for “KNICKS IN FIVE/NYC or Nowhere” energy and the whole nine. Pleased to say that our BLCU collegiate sweater is sold outtttttt 🫰🏾🙅🏾‍♂️♥️

If you’ve been to the Shoppe, you know how much the front/couch area just naturally becomes an hours (and hours…and hours…some of y’all be wylin lmao) long kick-back. Someone remarked once that it’s kinda like a university’s common area/town square kinda thing. We agreed! We were sober enough to receive that lmao and ultimately, the idea and design aesthetic of the “BLCU” was born ♥️🎓

Anywhoo, that’s that story lol :) Everything we make is significantly influenced by the things we’ve actually experienced in the Shoppe’s 7+ years. And thank y’all for making these Byas & Leon Originals a dope part of said experience, we give big thanks 🫶🏾🤲🏾
