I am a stone-cold beginner in pottery. I had longed to take classes for 20 years and couldn’t commit due to a hectic work schedule. When I retired and moved to NYC, I was introduced to Greenwich House Pottery and the Beginners Hand-Building class. The day the instructor informed the small class that I was totally new, they roared with delight! What a great way to be welcomed into a class that simultaneously thrilled and terrified me. I have paced myself to go slow. I have learned much from my classmates as well as the instructor and I have learned patience with the way of clay. I am most certainly being reshaped as I embark on this new endeavor. As is written in the Paulus Berensohn masterful book, Finding One’s Way With Clay, it is the pots we are forming and ourselves as well. The pots are a script of our lives. I am pleased with these 2 pieces made from white stoneware. They’re not perfect. Neither am I.
