While I continue to feel guilty about occasionally using Amazon Prime and a bunch of the world’s biggest celebrities and richest people went to the Bezos Ball in the name of ART. They al gathered in a museum with a 6 billion dollar annual endowment to raise money for the costume institute that now bears Anna Wintour name and is apparently self funded.
Brands and Bros pay to attend and spend a fortune on tickets to take celebrity and noteworthy guests in what many regulars regard as an excruciating night! I know some psycho designers who have paid $150k just to walk the red carpet with a celebrity, have a cocktail and then head home! Or out to a lame after party …
To me all those cavalier celebs were like BP feeling zero guilt about ra**ng the planet while you and I (the common folk) are labelled as consumers and are conned into feeling guilty about our personal carbon emissions, a term designed by the devil itself - the BP marketing team.
I can only assume the attendees, and the people who worked to get them there - don’t care about workers who live below the poverty line or barely make ends meet, or the voting rights act being overturned or influenced elections or ICE destroying America - well not far beyond their champagne socialism . Maybe fear made them attend - to stay close to the newly ordained money and power structures and to stay in its good graces. Maybe they are FAMESICK, maybe they just suck - who knows ?! But it’s all really disappointing to me.
Imagine if one of Madonna’s adopted children was picked up by ICE, repeatedly r***d in detention and then denied an Abortion. Or if Blue Ivy was imprisoned for simply being a black kid in a hoodie. Or if Hunter Schaefer was forced to use the men’s bathroom at an after party, as she raged into the evening on the arm of a tech autocrat. Or if Hailey and Justin Beibers kids were drafted and sent to Iran or Ukraine in another unnecessary global military action funded and empowered by Bezos and those like him?
