The role of being a manager comes with big responsibility. From team selection to motivating individuals, the game is just as important off the pitch as on it.

For example, Roberto Di Matteo. Known for his excellent player man-management and tactical knowledge. This helped him to win the Chelsea’s first-ever UEFA Champions League title in his debut season.

On the Style in the Arena podcast, Roberto Di Matteo spoke on leading big personalities in the dressing room:

“I have to be honest, it was challenging to lead players and people with strong personalities, but once you find the key to get inside them, you can be the luckiest guy or the luckiest manager that you can be, because once you find the right words that connect with them.

“I’m very human-based, you know, I always ask about the families and so on and and with some people, you can connect that way. With some other people, it’s about other stuff. Once you find that, you find a way inside these individuals. That’s your consistent secret weapon: to find the key or find the way to connect. I like to empower people. I like to trust in people.”
