To us, saving the Fashion District means creating jobs, bringing people back to the neighborhood, and becoming a destination where creativity, community, and craftsmanship can thrive.

It means teaching people to sew in the place where New York fashion began, and helping to build its future.

It’s been a HUGE week for The New York Sewing Center! After three months of building, we officially moved into our new home, taking over the entire 9th floor of our building in NYC’s historic Garment District and transforming an old factory floor into an 11,000-square-foot sewing school. We also launched our brand-new website last week, thoughtfully designed to make the experience even better for our growing sewing community. We’re so excited for this next chapter and everything we’re building together. And let’s just say… we have some pretty big things coming soon. ❤️

There’s a sewing school teaching kids as young as 4 how to sew and design fashion! Our kids’ after-school programs and Summer Fashion Camps are available at all three locations—Garment District, Williamsburg, and Montclair! We teach young designers real fashion skills using adult-level techniques like draping, machine sewing, fabric selection, and creative design. From their very first stitches to clothes they can actually wear, kids build confidence, learn real skills, and create pieces they’re proud of! We still have a few seats left in our Summer Fashion Camps for kids ages 4–16, with classes grouped by age.
