By adding in structural support (boning) around the bodice we ere able to give a smoother finish to the gown and help give the feel of security for the bride. The straps were very thin at the top and so she waned to feel more stable through there as well. So we added in under straps as the base with the lace overtop. The bodice was originally see through and she wanted to have a lining added to the front for more coverage. She also ordered for a little more coverage to the deep V plunge neckline. So we took a piece of lace appliqué from lower on the dress to close that up to her preferred height. The dress length was shortened and a bustle installed to bring the train up for her reception.

Part 2 of this reconstruction to downsize this gown. Highlighting the full front before and after. The cute bustle she picked for the train!
To adjust this gown down the lace appliqué down the seams was removed, the seams got stitched into their new place and the lace appliqué hand sewn back in place from the top to the bottom. The bust had structure added for support and shaped to her comfort and preferred look. Hemline shortened and a bustle for the train.

This gown project was well planned out with the client to accommodate the alterations just days before the wedding at her request. Making a plan and blocking out on the sewing schedule is key to a successful project. We knew in advance the dress was going to be many sizes larger than she ultimately would need. The bodice and side seams all the way down to the knees were taken in. The bust area was contoured, bra cups added, elements inside the gown added for structure and extra support. The hem length shortened and a bustle installed to the train. It was a pleasure to with this client and her commitment to the project and short time we had to get it done.

Morgan knew in her gut that she wanted to have a shorter train for her gown. We laid it out so she could get an idea of how it would look and she took the time to think about it. All the lace detailing was carefully removed and then measured out and moved up into its new position all the way around for the new hem length and train length. This is a very detailed and slow process but turned out great. The bodice was fitted and straps fitted as well. Thank you Morgan for sending photos of yours and Zach’s wedding day!
