Trying my hand at a new skill and seeing where it takes me. 🦀

Sand casting is one of the oldest metalworking techniques, where an object is pressed into sand to create a mold before molten metal is poured in. I thought this little crab claw was the perfect thing to experiment with.

My hands are rarely camera-ready. They're scratched, stained, and usually covered in something from the studio. But if that's what it takes to create jewelry that makes someone feel beautiful, it's always worth it. ✨

This is the moment that determines whether I celebrate... or start over. 😅

Every shell and shark tooth spends days growing a layer of real copper before I get to peel away the mask and reveal the results.

Sometimes it's perfect.
Sometimes it's blue. 😂

Now it's time to polish everything up and send these beauties off for their gold finish. ✨

"So you paint oyster shells gold?"

I get asked that all the time.

The truth is a little more complicated.

This oyster shell was coated with REAL metal through a process called electroforming. Hours in a chemical bath, layers of copper grown onto the shell, then polished and plated in real gold

No paint.
No shortcuts.
Just science, patience, and a little bit of obsession.

Would you have guessed this was real metal?
