Professor Red is the four-legged embodiment of everything you adore about dogs! This charming male pup is a bundle of friendliness and joy, with a playful spirit that can brighten anyone’s day. The volunteers lovingly call him “Professor Red” because he was found on a local college campus and it fits perfectly, because Red has a curious mind that’s always ready to learn! He adores toys, has the cutest little quirks, and his wiggly, affectionate nature makes him impossible not to love. Whether he’s greeting you with a happy dance or curling up for snuggles, Professor Red is all about spreading happiness and making friends wherever he goes.
Professor Red is available through Paws of Hertford County.

Jinxi and his three siblings were found living in the woods. He was pretty shy at first, but even then, he showed us just how sweet he really is.
Once Jinxi warms up, he becomes the biggest love bug.
He is incredibly gentle, affectionate, and sweet. He loves his Churus (a LOT)playing with toys, wrestling and playing with his siblings, and when playtime is over, he enjoys a nice cozy nap on the cat tower.
Jinxi would love a family who will give him a little patience while he gets comfortable, and in return, he will give you so much love.

Meet Jerry!

What first got you into running? About 10 years ago I had shoulder surgery and to pass my time I walked, ALOT! After I healed, I continued to walk until one day I got bored and decided to start running.

What’s your favorite local route or race, and why? I have a couple that are pretty special. My first ever 5K was the Cause for Paws in Portsmouth. It was a run for the Portsmouth Humane Society and we had adopted cats from there and thought it would be great to support them. My son and I ran it together and Steph cheered us on. To date, that race is my 5k PR! Unfortunately they stopped due to participation and funding. Second would be the Striders Duathlon. That event opened my eyes to the multi sport world and now have started training for my next big goal, Iron Man 70.3.

What’s one of your most memorable running moments (funny, tough, or inspiring)? Breaking 1:43 in the Tidewater Striders Winter 1/2 at the dismal swamp (Thanks Tristan!!) AND the first time I was asked to pace the Shamorck 1/2 two years ago. I had a great pacing partner (Thanks Mike for showing me ropes and to John for trusting in me) knowing I had a hand in helping others achieve their goals is pretty special.

What’s your favorite way to refuel or recover after a run? A cup of coffee and my Normatecs

What is your next running goal? Iron Man 70.3 (destination currently unknown)

What’s a running tip or piece of advice you’d share with newer runners? Listen to your body (I’m still learning how to do this too)

Tell us something about yourself that people may not know. I love Halloween and am a horror movie/ ghost story ju**ie

During Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we want to take a moment to honor two very special members of our team, Kim and Carol, who have faced breast cancer with incredible courage over the past two years.
Our dear friends and teammates have endured surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation, each navigating a journey that takes more strength than words can express. We are beyond grateful and so blessed that both Kim and Carol are now cancer-free.
Today, Kim ran the Frick and Frack 5K In For the Fight. To make the day even more special, John’s wife, Julie, Julie’s sister, and a dear friend surprised Kim at the race with special T-shirts proclaiming “KIM-pletely Unstoppable!” It was a beautiful way to celebrate her strength, and how very loved she is!

Today and every day, we honor Kim and Carol, along with all breast cancer survivors, those still fighting, and the loved ones who walk beside them. Their courage inspires us, their strength humbles us, and their stories remind us to cherish every moment.

Kim and Carol, we celebrate you, we love you, and we are so grateful to have you as part of our team. You are both truly unstoppable.

Location: Running Etc. (Virginia Beach) 1940 Laskin Road #302

Event Details: Winding Way Run Co. exists to put together trail and ultra running events where all (runners and volunteers alike) can take part in one of the most supportive communities out there. Some runners will push each other as they vie for a podium, some will link up with others for great conversation, some will struggle to make the time limit, and others will be working the aid stations instead of running - we're here for ALL of it!

Welcome to the trails of First Landing State Park, a true breath of fresh air nestled in the corner of Virginia Beach! There will be roots, bridges, sandy sections, and beautiful scenery through the gently rolling trails that offer approximately 300 feet of elevation gain. Whether you're aiming for a chunk of wood that tells you you're number one or you're just hoping you can finish, our generous 4 hour cutoff time invites all to join in the trail celebration!

Beautiful Whisp is a 3-year-old girl who has come a very long way—and her story is one of resilience, second chances, and learning to trust. Whisp spent the first two years of her life surviving on the streets. She learned early to be resourceful and independent, and unfortunately, the humans in her early life let her down. But once she found her way into a loving foster home, Whisp discovered something she had been missing all along: safety, comfort, a full belly, and a human she could begin to trust. Today, Whisp is a happy and healthy girl who has embraced the comforts of indoor life. She loves watching the world safely from a window, stretching out for peaceful naps, playing with wand toys and lasers, and enjoying her favorite treats. She needs a calm, quiet and peaceful home She would do best as an only cat, where she doesn't have to compete for attention or worry about sharing her space. She would also do best in an adult-only home. She's looking for someone who understands that sometimes the most meaningful relationships take time to build. She has been with Billy the Kitten Rescue for a years and it’s time for her to find a loving home.

Tinky Winky is a handsome brown tabby boy, with a gentle soul and a personality.
He came into rescue after being born outside at one of our colonies with his siblings. After being trapped and brought into foster care, Tinky Winky began learning that people, soft beds, toys, and indoor life could actually be pretty wonderful.
Tinky Winky is bonded with Po, and these two boys are looking for their forever home together.
While Po is the goofy social butterfly of the pair, Tinky Winky is the more serious, sophisticated gentleman. He likes to observe first, decide whether you’re trustworthy, and then slowly let you into his world.

Approximately 11 month old Red is looking for his forever home.
His neuter and adoption are fully sponsored thanks to a generous donor through Friends of Animal Control Eastern Shore.

Despite a difficult start in life, Baby Red remains incredibly sweet, loving, and resilient.

A fenced-in yard would be ideal, but he could also thrive with an adopter dedicated to providing multiple walks and plenty of exercise each day to match his feeding schedule and active puppy energy.
Absolutely loves other dogs and would do great with a canine companion.
All he needs now is a forever family willing to give him the happy ending he deserves
