Alright y’all, it’s about to get real with a little story time…so grab your coffee or tea (Redbull for me!), some tissues and settle in….y’all ready? Here goes…
In May 2020, I was appointed and sworn in as a Town Commissioner and opened Deep South Posh. The grand opening was held on June 20, 2020 at the height of the Covid Pandemic. I knew from the beginning that opening a business was a big risk to take at the time but it was one I was willing to take.
Since then, life has been nonstop but only in the best of ways…
June 2021, we moved to a bigger space and in September 2022 and even bigger space than that! In between, I have traveled to multiple countries and states, attended many awesome events, was re-elected as a Town Commissioner, met some pretty amazing people and I can’t help but to look back and think of how truly blessed I am.
You ALL have supported my dream, believed in me when others didn’t, shared my excitement and prayed when hit with challenges. That’s what makes this the hardest thing for me to….to say “Goodbye” for now.
It absolutely sickens me that we were all able to stand on our own two feet during Covid, we were able to go with the flow and take the hits as they kept coming but yet after the Pandemic, the hits are three times harder and they just keep getting worse. Inflation, shipping delays and very little grant opportunities for actual small businesses have hit home worse than ever. It’s no secret that this Holiday Shopping Season was the worst in a long time for small businesses. Over the Christmas & New Year break, I had to sit down and give some serious thought into how I’m going to proceed. Let’s be honest y’all, I’m tired. I’m tired to the point that depression has ruined my drive and passion. I’m tired to the point that being a business owner no longer excites me. And I’m tired of not giving my all because at the end of the day, that’s not who I am. I pride myself in knowing that when I do something, I give it 100% my ALL.
I’m sure by now you’re wondering “so what now?”…and that’s the question of 2023! In all honesty, I don’t know…and I actually feel damn good about that! I’m going to start by having a big sale in the shop with the closing date set for January 20th. After that, everything will go into storage until I decide exactly what I’m going to do. That may be a few months or it may be a few years…who knows. After that, I will be in California for a week and when I come back, I plan on finishing some projects in my home that I’ve been desperate to complete for nearly 3 years now. I do know that whatever I end up doing, I want to be socially active. So there’s no doubt I will see you all around somewhere!
I’m heartbroken that I am closing the store but at the same time, I am excited to see where this new path leads.
Y’all, please stop in to see me. My hours may be wonky in the coming days but you can bet I will be there on the weekends for sure! Also, please come take this inventory off my hands! I will begin marking everything down this week.
Edited to add: I wanted to personally thank Elizabeth (owner of West Street Village). Many of you are not aware but she played a huge part in me being able to even start my business and I plan on elaborating very soon. Elizabeth has been the most amazing landlord anyone could possibly ask for!
