Sheboygan, Wisconsin resident Jessica is the maker behind Sew Crafty Gifts LLC. Jessica will be with us at the La Crosse Center for our WI Artisan Fair 2022 By Midwest Handmade in August.
"I am a 4th generation seamstress. My mom has an alterations business from home bout an hour from me. My grandmother was paralyzed at 16 in a car accident so growing up she sewed stuffed animals and doll clothes for Easter Seals to make ends meet. As a kid I would help turn clothes n stuffies inside out (small hands were easier) and stuff them. I made my own doll clothes as well...in highschool I made my homecoming dress. Between the two of them they taught me alot between questions, lessons and watching. Most of my clothes were handmade growing up I was tall but too thin for most store bought to fit right and we didn't have alot of $$. My parents divorced when I was 7. So my mom, brother and I lived with my grandmother till I was 14. She watched us while my mom worked. Seeing how much a woman restricted to a wheelchair can get done when she puts her mind to it! (She raised 3 kids herself after her and my grandfather divorced).
I used to be a Pastry Chef and I have transitioned to my business fulltime this year is 3 years!"
