June is Men's Mental Health Awareness. Men experience mental health challenges, including depression and anxiety, but are less likely to seek help than women. A significant concern is that men are more likely to die by su***de and experience substance use disorders. Men are less likely to be diagnosed with mental health conditions like depression compared to women. However, men are more likely to experience substance use disorders and die by su***de. Cultural factors, like the pressure to appear strong and self-reliant, can prevent men from acknowledging or addressing mental health issues. Men can also experience anxiety disorders, with 14.3% of men in the US having a form of anxiety, according to the National Institute of Mental Health. Men are more likely to develop substance use disorders, including alcohol and drug abuse, as a way to cope with mental health challenges. Men may perceive seeking help as a sign of weakness or a failure to live up to masculine ideals. Cultural norms may discourage open communication about emotions, making it harder for men to identify and address mental health issues. Men…it’s okay to not be okay! Please speak out & get help!!!

Today is my birthday! I’ve never been one to really celebrate it, but…I’m so thankful to still be here despite all the challenges I’ve faced during the past 5 years.
