If you have watched Encanto then you know that there are multiple songs in the movie that get stuck in your head (looking at you Bruno).

But "Waiting on a Miracle" brings me to tears every time I hear it because I have been, and still am often, where Mirabel feels she is. Never being enough to be considered part of her family, always trying harder and still not good enough. You say you are fine and you do what you can to do your part, but still feel like you're never enough. Always trying harder and still falling short. And the most important thing of all, it's okay to not be fine all the time; you can't always be happy or strong or perfect and holding yourself to that standard can hurt you too

Like Mirabel, I'm working on recognizing that I am enough. That I don't have to prove nor earn my worth from those around me. While my resolution will probably take longer than the movie does, Encanto reminds me that I'm not alone in feeling the way I do and that it's okay to lean on others when it's too much to do it on my own. My village is always growing and always there to help me when I need it.

It's been a while, I know. I have to say, this whole plague thing (I don't know if you have heard, but there is a global pandemic that continues to rage with new strains being introduced to the world) has wreaked havoc on my creativity.
I feel good for a bit, make or start a piece, and then get bogged down. I know, and usually am content to, live by the creative philosophy of 'Finished, not perfect' but man am I struggling. Being creative in any form doesn't spark joy the way it used to and not being able to create makes me anxious, like I've lost a piece of me.
So I'm starting over. I'm hitting my reset button and instead of trying to create pieces, I'm going to go back try to e myself artistically. So last night I printed a drawing I made over a year ago of Dr. Nick and one of his funny quotes. I colored it for my husband so he could hang it at work (don't you want to see your pharmacist making malpractice jokes). Is it a masterpiece? No, but I also didn't stress out while coloring either.

I have a desk, a craft desk and a table and still the sofa, covered in a blanket, is my favorite place to create. Feeling the shift from Halloween and Dia de Mu***os to Thanksgiving has got me in a thankful mood today.

When asked about having a milestone board made, I got so excited to work on it!
My process is to start with a real rough draft and work through it finding the things that you like and expanding on them. I always check back on detail placement, color choices and letter styles before committing to the permanent paint version.
This process takes time to get it right but when it's right, it is something that you love forever!
