September is Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month!🩵
I apologize in advance for the long post, but this is very personal to me.
For me, this month isn’t just about sharing facts. It’s personal.
My grandma was diagnosed with ovarian cancer and fought a courageous battle for over 7 years. I watched her fight through the good and the bad. She still got up and fought every single day. I watched her lose all her hair, go through countless chemo treatments, walk with milk jugs up and down the driveway to regain some strength.. and yet she still took time to sit and color with me. Play games with me. Watch my “talent shows” and love me with every ounce of her being. She still showed up for every sporting event that she could. I know I got some of my bad assery from her😉
Ovarian cancer is sometimes called the “silent cancer”.
Some symptoms can be easy to overlook because they seem so ordinary:
🎗️ Persistent bloating
🎗️ Pelvic or abdominal pain
🎗️ Feeling full quickly or difficulty eating
🎗️ Changes in bowel or bladder habits
🎗️ Fatigue or back pain
🎗️ Changes that are new or unusual for you
There is no reliable routine screening test for ovarian cancer in women at average risk, which makes knowing the symptoms and talking to your healthcare provider even more important.
But beyond the facts, I want people to understand what this disease really means.
Although I was barely in the double digits when I lost my grandma, I’ll never forget watching the cancer drain the life out of her and rip her away from me and our family. Cancer does not discriminate.
So this month, please take a minute to learn about ovarian cancer. Know the symptoms. Know your family history. And most importantly, listen to your body and advocate for yourself.
With that being said, the Sandra Ring (named after my grandma), will be 15% off for the month of September🩵
