Live life lightheartedly.™ About 20 years ago, a new bar opened up across the street from an old bar in Leelanau County.

The owner of the new bar didn’t want any of the locals coming in and ordering food and drinks because he wanted to run a “sophisticated” restaurant. So one day, a local man went into the new restaurant, sat down at the bar, and ordered a drink. The bartender served him his drink and then sniffed,

“You know… we really don’t want any local riffraff coming in here.”

So the local man left, as reques

ted, and walked across the street to the old bar to tell the owner what happened. In response to the comment, the owner printed up a batch of white T-shirts with the words “Local Riff Raff” stamped across the chest in bear’s navy blue. So the people of the community bought them and started strutting them around town—proud to be local community members.
