Summer M U S T H A V E S today are all about blending the spring with the summer. There are rare days in New Jersey where a denim shirt and shorts are called for, so this is a casual look I turn to when a tank top just won’t cut it. This is chic-ed up, with a bold necklace and dressy sandals.
D E N I M S H I R T — this is an item that I think every woman should own. It can be worn year round. It works for the office or the beach. It can be dressed up when worn with tulle or silk or sequins or dressed down to be worn with sweats or leggings. I often tie my shirt at the waist to wear over dresses. I front tuck it into pants or shorts, as done here.
P A T T E R N E D S H O R T S — I love patterned shorts because they have a very New England summer prep look to them, and they are really versatile. I’d wear these green shorts with just about any solid color - even unexpected pairings like pink or yellow. The right belt, jewelry, shoes combo would bring everything together. Because they are a classic cut and not too short, these could even work with wedge espadrilles for a way to dress up shorts.
S A N D A L S — you all have seen these before, so today, I’ll focus on color. I stuck to the same 3-4 colors when buying most of my shoes: black, gray, tan and cognac. Each of these colors are really user-friendly and work with almost any ensemble. AND... it’s really easy to find belts that work with these colors.
S T A T E M E N T J E W E L R Y — I love eye catching accessories, and with a simple outfit like this, the jewelry can take center stage. Necklaces like this from can make a boring dress interesting! A bold earring can draw attention to your face or new haircut.
