What I’m working on. Vintage mirror, library table. These are all house projects.
I’ve been Cleaning out inventory and need to rehome a lot of treasures! A garage full of them, all must go!

Never forgetting what a blessing it is to have a roof over our heads, provision for the day, and rest every night. We are truly blessed, right where we are at.
Just a little something I painted and put together for anyone that feels the same way.
Count your blessings!

Nearing the final stages of this project, we decided to call it the cabinet from hell. If I had not been so insistent on putting it in the newly remodeled tack room of our main barn, we would have given it up. This cabinet was in pretty miserable shape, and dirty and smelly, to boot.
I chose a chalk paint from the Home Depot line, to give it a chance. The color did not reflect what was on the display. But it grew on me. No way was I going to replicate the sad, fabric, wood backed panels. It needed a whole new clean look. Grunge, sanding, or chipping was a no-no. It also was falling apart. We repaired the cracks, breaks, and put in a new, birch plywood backing. The drawers were also broken and had to be remade. The tin panels were speedy, but this poor girl needed a new life, and we made the investment. Once in, the cabinet did not fit where we intended. Lots of scuffs were made in the finish getting it back out. The cabinet doors also didn't line up. So we decided to give her a very clean finish, and neat, serviceable hardware. Because this cabinet goes in a room frequented by small children, it was bolted to the wall behind it. We added a central door latch and magnetic hardware so the doors closed completely, every time. It is utilitarian, and looks like someone cares about it now. We are happy. It goes well in the space. Clean, useable, and enough of a minimal bling to carry itself with a bit of personality. Not gonna lie, so glad this one is done.

This weeks challenge. This cabinet practically threw itself at me with its multiple issues. Enough potential to keep it out of the dumpster.... With some TLC it should prove to be an interesting piece with personality. Right now it just needs a stretcher!

So the white piece was too large for what I was planning....over the winter we built another structure for our horses, and consequently equipped my tack room. These photos show an almost finished project. My favorite is the repurposed computer cabinet turned into a tack locker. We refinished the cabinets and a free vanity to match. Note the long bench, it had separate kids to house tack cubbies. I love the sign we crafted to give the room dome whimsy. The lighting is not yet installed. Still settling on a farmhouse type fixture. The reclaimed French wood doors house it all. Everything was fine in s mixture of chalk and milk paints, gel stain, and specialty colored stains. Even the walls are stained instead of painting. Can’t wait for the final finished room to show you!

It’s always fun to look at a piece with super good bones and interesting features, and think, “what can I do here?”
I NEED a piece for a certain area, but it’s transformed body may not fit the area I’m picturing it for.,,,
Well, we will just have to see. I’m loving the chicken wire and inserts, I’m hoping to retain the spirit of the piece while giving it a whole new identity. I’m excited, cautious, yet optimistic.

Another trash to treasure story....
Tag sale armoire covered in cobwebs and in pieces. But such nice bones! $50 dollar purchase price, hauled it home, cleaned it up, repaired the broken drawer, fabricated some new pieces, and added salvaged trim. Base painted the under tones, and milk painted the body. This actually took 2 coats, it was so needy. Sanded, sealed with h**p oil and dark waxed the prominences and brighter areas. I’m a grunge girl so I had to grunge it up just a tad, bit I think it still kept its elegance. Because it’s so old it really smelled moth ball-y, so I coated the insides with cedar oil, closed it up, and let it sit for a few days. This have the finish time to cure as well. We have been remodeling all year so this went into the new master bedroom, which is coming along at a leisurely pace. Jasper quietly critiqued until the floors were done, the trim was hung, and the armoire was placed “just so.” Ahhhh, it’s found the perfect home, and looks as if the room was made for it 💕

October 2017
Its been a hectic year. Some of you may well know that I run a stables called Grace Follows Performance Barn (yes, its on FB). This is my day job. Raising show horses, competing, coaching students, and loving life. This year as the seasons changed we decided to go all out with the decorating. It all started with a little bench that I painted and it sort of spread from there. The entryway is a welcoming fall signature, and as you walk through the barn, swags of fall leaves festoon the rafters. The piece de resistance' is the last stall on the right, the student area. I took a totally ugly buffet and transformed it in black, with white wax finish. Matching chairs flank it, and another in the corner. As I numbered the pieces 1 thru 5, the little stool by the lockers only got 1/2. A boot and helmet trunk spray painted and white waxed with a french stencil to keep everything rooted, and lastly a Home Sweet Home sign hand painted by moi to top the weathered mirror and sconces. I think the students and parents are happy with the area. And I definitely like the statement in black, which is so easy to adorn with seasonal accents as time marches on.
