I met a young girl yesterday stocking the shelves of our blessing box. I asked her if she was with an organization and she replied,"No, my mother and I once relied on the blessing boxes to survive. We are now in a better place and so I want to give back to those who need it. She went on to tell me once a month she spends about $100 buying items on sale and then stocks the shelves in Jackson Square. I asked her old she was and she told me 18.
Let that sink in.... just 18 years old! What a wonderful human being and blessing to our community.
I am humbled and grateful for all the individuals who stop by and stock the shelves of our blessing box. It's easy to forget there are individuals who are struggling everyday to feed and cloth their families. Oak Ridge has several boxes, organizations, and churches that attempt to address the growing needs of people struggling to get by. Please consider donating items and/or money to help out. You can make a difference just like this young woman.
