You can’t make old friends. To know and is to love them, for so many different reasons, including the fact that they never miss the opportunity to make a fun pit stop in Hopkinsville to have a bite at , shop on 6th Street, and admire the beautiful historic homes.

Small town heroes. Taking a moment to celebrate our tenants Graham Dawson & Heather Harvey Dawson who, since opening The Mixer in December 2019 in the historic former Young Hardware building next to ours, have grown a standout restaurant and craft cocktail bar while weathering a pandemic, a tornado, and the ups and downs of a fluctuating economy, rolling with every punch with fortitude, grace and innovation. And since opening Baked Hopkinsville in our own building almost 3 years ago, the ever evolving range of baked goodies they’ve been offering customers would impress in any city.

What a difference 9 months makes. Since the severe wind event that clobbered 6th Street in late March last year, a tremendous amount of collective effort has gone into restoring the badly damaged historic building that houses The Mixer, not to mention our own beautiful building next door where Baked Hopkinsville and Southern Honey Boutique & Gifts currently reside. Derek and I truly left a piece of our hearts on this pivotal block in the heart of Hoptown's historic district, and we could not be prouder of Graham Dawson & Heather Harvey Dawson for the resilience, perseverance and ingenuity they've shown throughout this difficult process.

Graham & Heather are the epitome of surviving and thriving - my personal mantra for 2024 - and these inspiring young entrepreneurs now have joint businesses right next door to each other! Kudos to everyone who's helped bring 6th Street back to life during a difficult year and to all our Hoptown friends, please continue to shop small, shop local, and support the Downtown Renaissance District.

It's taken a minute to properly assess the structural damage to our beloved historic building on 6th Street and submit the necessary supplemental claim, complicated by the fact that we've been dealing with this situation remotely from 833 miles away, but the paperwork's now squared away and we're excited to get started. I'm particularly eager to repair the distinctive fascia that's unique to the building and honors Henry Bohn, the dry goods proprietor who was the heart of Hopkinsville's small but vibrant Jewish community during the late 19th century. Ditto the antique brick that barely missed being sucked off the front elevation. And suffice it to say that Derek and I are very grateful to Michael Venable & Becky Smith of Michael Venable - State Farm Agent and our contractor Paul Sova of Superlawn & Garden for their unwavering support and guidance, and being our eyes and ears on the ground in Hoptown. Let the repairs begin!

Unfortunately, our wonderful neighbors at got the brunt of last night’s tornado when the 2nd floor of their building was blasted apart, but it appears that our own building has miraculously been spared from significant damage. Fingers crossed, and please say a little prayer for our beautiful building and tenants .hoptown and The Apron Wife who're doing so much to help Hoptown's historic district survive and thrive. And to all our Hoptown friends, please rally around Graham & Heather - who live and breathe the historic district - and support The Mixer any way you can.

Two years after we closed our doors, it’s thrilling to see our beautiful historic building spring back to life! First The Apron Wife threw open the doors to summer and now our wonderful neighbors Graham & Heather at The Mixer are opening Baked Hopkinsville just in time for the holidays. They brought some baked goodies to WKDZ to spread the word - and let’s spread it too!
