In 1994, Mysterys Extinction was busy recording their legendary single “North County” in Deja Voo’s studio when Voo’s ASR10 and Blame One’s mic tripped wires, overheated and caused an electromagnetic vortex that opened up a portal to an alternate 2024. Mid recording, the Mystery’s Crew including Sandy Lion and DJ Cro, were teleported across time and space into a dystopian Oceancyde, a bizarre ride to a city vaguely familiar but completely backwards and upside-down.
They took a look around and saw that the iconic pier was on fire, swanky hotels replaced the dirt lots they used to drink 40s in and the top-gun house was a pie stand go figure. Magazine shops and record stores disappeared and were replaced by over priced boutiques, carne asada burritos were $15 dollars and they bulldozed Roberto’s No. 13 What the Filibertos. The coastline was eroded and waves were crashing on million dollar mansion doorsteps. Mystery’s was on a mission to get back to 94. To a time and a place that was The Oceancyde.
